This was an informative story of Delta Force's creation and the struggles and obstacles that the founders faced. This is not a Rambo story, nor does it give juicy details of Delta Force missions. The more you read, the more you realize just how big the Army is and how entrenched the bureaucracy is. At times the book can be quite boring, and it's difficult to keep up with all of the Army staff mentioned in the book. Charlie Beckwith's whining also gets old, and the way he carried himself after Delta's first mission was disappointing. I'd be interested in hearing other accounts of Delta's creation in order to validate this man's tale.

This is an interesting book, but in many ways it's not exactly what you might expect it to be. What it is a great history of the origins of "Delta Force" in Vietnam and the creation of this group in the 1970s and 80s by Col. Beckwith.The book itself is quite interesting and filled with political intrigue and military action. However, half way through it becomes a book on project management as the author deals with the problems of developing the army's elite anti-terrorist unit.It is interesting to note that Beckwith writes about getting his men training. But doesn't get very specific with the skills he required. I think this was an intentional as at the time the book was published there was little information available about this unit. More current information can be found in Eric Haney's book Inside Delta Force: The Story of America's Elite Counter terrorist Unit and The Mission, The Men and Me: Lessons from a former Detla Force Commander by Pete Blaber.It is also interesting to note that while he does give a complete description of what he saw on the failed Iran Hostage Mission that this portion of the book is very small in comparison to the rest of the book. If you are interested in first person accounts of the hostage situation, I would recommend reading 444 Days by Lt. Col. Scott, and Guests of the Ayatollah by Mark Bowdin (not first person).What I enjoyed about this book is it is well written, shows the author has a sense of humor, and most of the entire trip down Memory Lane. I remember these times. They had a big impact on who I am and what I've done in life. This book is a time capsule.

One of the most interesting stories I've ever read. Not only is it interesting from the perspective of learning how Delta Force came into being, but the breadth and depth of the way the operators are trained and the meticulous planning that goes into a mission was a real eye-opener. I started out with a huge amount of respect for Special Forces already, and this book increased that respect to awe, and even more appreciation for and gratitude to them.What was just as interesting and terribly disturbing was the shortsightedness and turf-protecting response from the military brass that Col. Beckwith had to struggle against for years. He's not shy about naming names either, which I give him a lot of credit for. It's frightening to think that our armed forces are being run by such short-sighted, petty, and "what's in it for me, to hell what's best for the troops or the country" high-level military brass.Great book, great read, and Colonel Beckwith is a true hero. Thank you, Sir.

Colonel Charlie Beckwith was the founding commander of Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta, also known as Delta Force. Beckwith gives his unique first person perspective on the challenges he found in setting up a quick reaction counterterrorism unit that many other countries already had (and demonstrated in real world activities). Beckwith detailed his experience, from working with the British Special Air Service, to combat with the Special Forces in Vietnam, to establish a unit in the 1970s. He doesn't leave out any of the warts, especially of people who got in his way.The story is fascinating mostly for its demonstration of the large institutional roadblocks thrown in the way of those leading new initiatives. In this case it was "Big Army" vs. COL Beckwith. Though he had key champions in high places, Beckwith still ran up against established units who thought his effort would be redundant. He ran into people who disliked him personally and therefore oppose him. In the end the requirement for a counterterrorism force became obvious, especially with the way other countries demonstrated their effectiveness, and how no other unit in the US military had been identified to fill the role.Beckwith ends the story with his telling of Operation EAGLE CLAW, the attempted rescue of American hostages in Tehran in 1980. As is well known the operation ended in failure and the hostages weren't released for nearly another year. Beckwith chalks the failure up to too many hands being involved in the operation, and the surprise sandstorm.Though Beckwith ends his story rather abruptly with a short chapter of the continued need for Delta Force, and many of the details were (and are) likely still classified, the first person account is still worth the read. And even though Beckwith often appears bitter, the personal details about how the sausage is made is fascinating.

I have read a number of books recently about the military and especially Special Operations. This is an interesting story of one man who saw the problem/opportunity of what the Army was missing and had the fore sight and guts move the program through a painfully ignorant bureaucracy. Good read, perhaps a little too detailed and felt there were some interesting stories left out. If you are former military as I am, you can appreciate what he went through.

Not sure why everyone is so willing to give 5 stars to a book with so many errors. I am usually pretty forgiving about errors but feel enough is enough, this book has more than it's share of poor editing. Almost every recipe I looked at had some sort of error, some minor, some not so. Example a recipe for onion rings with no onions listed in the ingredients or a chicken recipe that tells you to toss the marinade but then says to pour the rest of the marinade into the dish or a fish recipe that calls for TWO fillets that serves SIX!!!! I could go on and on but you get the idea. So bottom line is if you are comfortable interrupting errors go for it but if not find something else. Note to the author and editor, try PROOF READING before you publish!

I feel that the book is somewhat involved with every one of the examples it gives while making its key focuses. Possibly it's simply me, however, I could have taken the spirit of this book fifty-fifty the number of pages. My recommendation certainly analyzed it completely on the off chance that you have sufficient energy however on the off chance that you don't, that point definitely do analyze it yet don't hesitate to read on to the following moment that you feel the writing is getting a bit boring and you've gotten the point and might want to proceed forward.

I found interested recipes and tried a few. They work but I noted that the time from cookbook does not usually meet the time on my fryer so I made adjustment in the cookbook. I hope you must find this book useful.

I am new to air frying and was honestly surprised at the items I could make in mine. I found some great recipes in this book but I also found some errors that, IMHO, should've been edited beforehand. I believe another reviewer had the same issues. One of the ones that stand out are the Bacon Wrapped Onion Rings. The ingredients list does not even mention onions! There are other onion ring recipes and I guess any novice cook should KNOW that you need sliced onions for an onion ring recipe but it still bugs me that something so simple as the MAIN ingredient was left out and no one caught it before publishing?!That was one of many errors I found. I am giving this book 3 stars based on the 6 recipes I DID try so far and liked each one. I especially recommend the Sweet & Spicy Bacon and the Best London Broil Ever. I was not prepared for a tender cut of meat coming from an air fryer but it really was wonderful.Note to the author...hire a proof reader. Other than that, keep cooking!*I received this book as a free digital download for reviewing.

I am a fairly good cook and am just starting to play around with air frying as an alternative to using oil, frying pan, electric fryer, grill, etc. I loved these recipes. I tried 4 of them but most of the recipes I saw had typos.My suggestion is that if you are an experience cook, you really won't have a problem with the errors and typos, as you can pretty well tell if it says two pieces of fish and you are serving six, obviously that has to change.I tried: Cheese and Garlic Stuffed Chicken Breasts, Easy Grilled Beef Ribs, Salmon Filets in Creamy Lime Sauce, and Beef Franks and Baked Beans because who doesn't think these are a summer staple (and summer is coming!). They were rather easy to follow, with a couple of notes - first, I would cook the Salmon Filets a bit less than noted, and the Beef ribs a bit longer, but I believe those are personal preferences, as either way, the beef was medium and the filets well done. I had no problems following the recipes, but would advise the author to definitely get an editor and proof reader to look it over the next time.

He surprised me tonight with a big delicious meal all made from this book.I bought an air fryer for my neice when she headed to college so she could have real food since she didn't have a stove in her dorm room.I sent her some of these recipes and she loves them.So I just overnighted this recipe book to her.There are lots of errors like onions rings with no onions in the ingredients list,but if you read the entire recipe through you can adjust it according to your family and catch the errors.The recipes themselves are delicious.

I thought you could only fry in the air fryer, but i've learned through these recipes that you can bake in it as well. I like the fact that calories, sugars,carbs etc are given for each recipe as many books leave this information out. This book is not written for a particular brand of air fryer but will work for any brand. When I think of frying, I think of fried chicken, French fries and onion rings. After looking through these recipes, I realize how limiting my thoughts were. There are so many different foods that can be prepared in the fryer. I have received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily reviewing it.

Also made the savory sweetener free Italian Herb Bread which is good, at least when made with the very expensive finely processed almond flour that dominates most of the recipes in this book. Though that type flour has become more available and currently found even at Costco, I have previously had to order it from Honeyville Farms ad find it a most expensive ingredient.And as at least one other review has mentioned, no carb counts. With a nutritionist as co-author there is no reason for this. The generic no recipe is over 10g of carbs per serving, (paraphrased from,) that one finds in the intro is grossly insufficient. They seem to have the information since in discussing carb counts in the intro they mention the toasting bread on page 34 is only 1g net carb per slice, but even that recipe does not list net carbs!!! I was excited to find the website posted in the intro, hoping they had gone back and posted the nutrition and carb counts there, but I could not find them. With all the recipes one can find on line, including carb counts, their lack thereof significantly decreases the benefit of this book.My suggestion to you readers thinking of buying this book is to wait for a revised version where the sweet recipes use a lower carb version of sweetener that actually tastes good, and provides carb counts. (Hint: even this non-professional low carb baker does beautifully with erythritol which they condemn as producing inferior results, yet I've turned out stellar breads over and over with this sugar alcohol. ) Until then simply google the type recipe you are looking to make and preface it with "low carb". There are so many great free blogs out there with fabulous low carb recipes that not only have the carb count included, but a review function that allows you to see how the general public has succeeded with the recipe or how they may have changed it. Hard print cookbooks are passe, particularly ones with such limited information posted.

Being on pretty much a non-grain, non-starch, non-sugar eating plan for over a year, I've been anxiously seeking out a book like this. I am not gluten intolerant, I just eat closer to a paleo-style, but want a bit more variety and was hoping for good cracker and bread recipes. I wasn't disappointed.I made up the basic crackers, the "Any Nut" bread, and the "Hot Cross Buns" (which we've renamed the "Not Cross Buns"). The basic crackers were very simple to make and were delicious topped with a variety of salt-free seasonings I had sitting around. I made the "Any Nut" bread with walnuts and the minimal amount of sweetener called for. It was delicious and moist. The "Hot Cross Buns" were also quite delicious, but the group consensus was that these had no resemblance to the flavor of Hot Cross Buns, and therefore should not be called that (also, we decided to use a powdered-sugar glaze, powdered artificial sweetener just doesn't cut it as a glaze in my opinion).This book uses primarily nut flours in almost every recipe. This book is not for people with nut allergies. The recipes also use eggs. This is great for me since I love eggs and nuts, but people should be aware.Nut flours tend to be expensive (since nuts themselves are expensive) so I don't know if people will make these recipes as much as they would were nut flours the same price as wheat flour; however, that being said, recipes made with nut flours are very filling .. so your baked goods feed more people for the same size, or you will have them around longer.For those people familiar with Peter Reinhart cookbooks, I can say that the recipes here are much less fiddly and simple to prepare. He does go into long explanations about ingredients and techniques early in the book (which I appreciate), but unlike his bread books, you can be eating crackers or nut bread within an hour or two of thinking about it which is really nice.One more thing .. I haven't tried any of the "sweet" recipes. I just don't like the taste of "lots" of stevia, and I mostly stay away from Splenda. I just don't know how well the sweeter recipes would turn out, I have my reservations on that.

This book is one of the best purchases I have ever made.I have a child who is on the ketogenic diet for epilepsy, and these recipes are easily adaptable for ketogenic cooking. If you are looking for low-carb recipes, I highly recommend this book. These recipes have changed my son's world. He absolutely cannot eat more than a very extremely small amount of carbs per meal, and these recipes fit the bill (adapted to his needs). I taste everything I serve him, and I would eat these things for myself. They are tasty and appealing.If you are looking for things to taste like wheat products, they don't. But then, they are not made from wheat products. However, if you are looking for breads and cakes made from other things that taste good on their own, then this is it. These recipes are manageable, easy to use, and easy to manipulate to suit your purposes. The blueberry muffins are light and fluffy, with a light crumb texture. The brownies are rich and dense, with a full dark chocolate flavor. The toasting bread is nutty and flavorful, excellent with [ketogenic] jam. Those are the only things I have made so far, but they have all turned out very, very well.I cannot say enough good things about this book; because of this book, my 12-year old child had his first ever sandwich last month. Before, he could only have the meat. Imagine going to school and having to explain that you can't have bread -- only meat and cheese. His world is dramatically improved because of these recipes.If you are on the fence, let me encourage you to take the chance. These recipes are great.

Kate T. Parker is a mother, wife, former collegiate soccer player, Ironman, and professional photographer who shoots both fine art projects and commercial work for clients across North America.
