Cute book, good introduction the the basic bible stories. The stories included are: the garden of Eden, Noah's ark, Moses parting the Red Sea, David and Goliath, Jonah and the fish (it only says fish, not whale- huh), the birth of Jesus, the lame man who was lowered thru the roof to Jesus, the miracle of the loaves and the fish, the good Sheperd (Luke 15), the disciples and the storm quieted by Jesus (Mark 4), the parable of the builders (Matthew 7), Jesus walks on water, the resurrection, and Jesus fills the nets with fish (Matthew 28). I appreciate that each little story includes the original scripture reference, so you know where to read the entire story in the Bible. There are lots of flaps to open- not all are relevant to the story, but some are, like giant Goliath falling down! Overall, a satisfying purchase and a good way to start introducing Bible stories to my toddler.

This was a perfect little Bible to begin teaching my 2 year old with. The flaps were a continuation of the story line, and my child looked forward in anticipation to see the resolution to the story.To spare anyone the trouble of not knowing what stories are included, I'm providing a list. I looked high and low for a fun children's Bible that included the stories that I wished for, but was always at a loss when attempting to purchase. I'm extremely picky with children's Bible-books, and while this one does not meet all my dream-list criteria, it comes close and is the only Bible-book for Toddlers that I found appropriate for my 1 year old. He enjoys the flaps and asks to read the creation and flood story in particular over and over again. The writing is particularly excellent--the descriptions are concise, but rich, and focus on themes appropriate for the age group (eg: the flood story is called "A New Beginning" rather than focusing on the extremely destructive and tragic side of the story--at the same time, it isn't too sugar coated or warped). Some of the story concepts in the new testament are not really understandable to my son yet; he can't understand that Jesus is helping a cripple person walk, for example. But I think 2 year olds and up would understand it well. I accidentally ordered two of these, but I kept the second to give as a gift, and for such a wonderful price, you might be able to do the same.

This book is perfect for the kid who is in between “the Rhyming bible” (18 months to 2 years) and the Jesus Storybook Bible (3.5/4 years old). My 3.5 year old has a hard time sitting for the Jesus Storybook bible but I like this one because we can either read the very short stories, of she can just life the flaps while I short-hand tell her the stories. Really, both of my kids are at the age where *sometimes* they let me read the stories, but mostly they want to lift the flaps (3.5 and 16 months). I don't mind because they really like the book and how *many* flap are there for them to flip. Someday we will read more the text. I have read it myself and Sally Lloyd Jones (again) does a fantastic job of making bible stories interesting and understandable for children and adults alike.

Love the workmanship of this book. The flaps are super thick and most of them have emerged unscathed (unbent) even though my 13-month-old plays with this book all the time. I like all the stories, the plethora of animals (LO loves animals) and that it goes all the way through the Bible stories. All the stories and their foci are biblical. Just a couple tips if you want to make sure this Bible is accurate: theologically, I would like to have some mention of sin and people doing wrong things, and why Jesus came. However, it doesn't do what some other kids' bible books do, and make every story "about" the toddler, which is not the original intent. I really like that.

First, it came with the back cover sliced almost through more than halfway, near the binding. Super disappointing.Second, the pictures underneath the flaps are contrasting or different enough to be interesting. It looks only slightly different, so not exciting enough for my son (who LOVES all his over lift the flap books and reads them constantly) to pay attention to.For these two reasons, I tried to return it -- but would have had to pay shipping which was more than half the price of the book. Yeah, not worth it. So we kept it.My son uses this book as something to drive his cars on when they don't work on the carpeting. And he has managed to almost completely rip/tear the back cover off because of the sliced damage it arrived with. Sigh. A couple more weeks and it will have to be thrown away. The flaps won't hold up either. He can tear them off (which hasn't happened with any of the other ones he has so... just this one.)

I got the board book, it has the same number of pages as the hardcover version and contains the same stories that other reviewers have listed for the hardcover. The stories are all very short and simplified, which is perfect for the age group I'm gifting this to.The artworks is beautiful. The flaps usually show before and after scenes, like David confronting Goliath and then under the flap Goliath defeated or a bird with a nest of eggs and under the flap they have hatched. It's really a lovely book and a great way to get small children acquainted with the Bible.

The book does not get into the areas I needed such as assessing financials cost- or profit-sharing, unequal investment, or coordinating building inventory or marketing products or how to divide costs and impacts of other factors affecting the bottom line.

I am a business attorney who has been practicing law for over 25 years. My law firm, Walker & Chambers – Attorneys and Counselors at Law has been representing small to mid-size business in Texas for over 21 years. In my years of practice, I have been involved in the structuring, negotiating, and setting up of numerous business partnerships. I have also seen the worst of what happens when partners fail to get along, and thus fall out of favor with each other. I own almost all of Peterson's books. He is truly a master of teaching how to cook. His recipes focus on the most basic techniques and using the natural flavors of the foods themselves to make them stand out. I have never found better recipes for stews, pot roast, steak, etc. No celebrity chef will teach you the way Peterson can. You cannot go wrong with any of his books.So on to Meat.This is a very good kitchen education on meat. You will learn all of the basics about how to grill, braise, sauté, etc. The photos are marvelous and the recipes are very good. There's literally every type of meat you can cook here--squab, rabbit, brains, kidneys, I mean it goes on forever.There's not much contained in here that is not contained in his work Cooking, though. It seemed like he used this book more as a medium for showing off his photography than for delivering new recipes. There are a few, certainly, but goose with sauerkraut, that's not too innovative, and few of us really want to know how to cook brains. There's a great recipe for if you can find a really old rabbit, which Peterson acknowledges is close to impossible.So I enjoyed reading it and I will keep it. But this is not in-depth like Glorious French Food: A Fresh Approach to the Classics or Sauces: Classical and Contemporary Sauce Making, which really get into the explanations about how and why you cook a certain way. It's sort of like he took out the meat recipes from Cooking, added maybe a couple dozen useful new recipes, and some really pretty photos.But I will end the review on a high note. If you haven't read Peterson before and you all you want is a book on cooking meat, this is it, you'll love it. If you need a new cook book and don't know where to start, start with Cooking--that book changed my life. If you have Cookingand you want more in-depth information about meat, you'll find a few bits here and there that you'll like. If you are really hungry for an in-depth education from Peterson, track down Glorious French Food: A Fresh Approach to the Classics--light on photos and heavy on teaching.Four stars because it's Peterson, and it's a great work. One star penalty for being a little redundant.

Jame's Peterson's "Meat: A Kitchen Education" is a remarkably useful book, chock-a-block full of useful information from a Master Butcher. You'll learn stuff about meat cuts you never knew, and if you pay attention the book will save you a ton of money in your shopping. Excellent reference work any serious chef's bookshelf, and IMO indispensable for more casual kitchens. A knowledge base that begs to be tapped.

Perfect for both the experienced and beginning cook.

Read it with interest, I learned things, but, to be honest, I just like reading cookbooks--almost like reading post-modern novels that have no plot. Will try a few recipes. Probably best for someone who is just getting into the kitchen but isn't overawed by having their steak bones frenched.

if you are a meat lover and cook a lot, this is a great book. good basic tips and has good background and understanding of meats. very useful and can be shared amongst family members for cooking tips. also a nice looking book on top of that.

Chef Peterson has outdone himself again. His newest book is a well assembled cookbook and very good in depth information on all cuts of meat and recipes to follow. So for anyone from the home cook to the professional this is a must read.

Actual Rating: 4.5 starsGeekerella is a modern-day Cinderella fairytale featuring Danielle, or Ella, who resides with her "stepmonster" and evil twin step-sisters. This book has everything from teen heart throbs, bloggers, CONS, witchy evil characters who are mean, and moments that touch the reader's heart.The great thing about this book is the total geekiness/fandom the story provides. First, it is a retelling of Cinderella. Ella does everything in the house, while trying to retain memories of her deceased parents. Ella tries to actively keep their memory alive, while the Stepmonster tries desperately to squash it out of Ella like some fly buzzing around a summer cake. Second, it has a mysterious budding friendship between Ella and THE Darien Freeman, who in this story, is kind of a big deal. Ella cannot stand that Mr. Heartthrob with insured abs is cast as the lead character in Starfield, Carmindor. She rants and raves about it on her blog...needless to say...Darien actually texts Ella thinking she is her father and the two have a budding friendship, with developing feelings. And the kicker... he has no clue she is THE Reblegunner blogger squashing his name in this role, and she has no clue he is Darien Freeman.Of course, there are twists, and turns, and Ella goes to the ball, and then is grounded until death. But the adventures are fun and it turns into being a cute story that leaves the reader with feelings of joy and delight.This story is an easy read, the whole book flew by pretty quickly. I like when books are just easy. Having said that, I wish there were a bit more challenges for Ella to overcome. Sure, glass slippers, and hopelessly devoted Carmindors are searching the States for Ella to confess their young love to, but I wish some of the interactions between "Stepmonster", Catherine, and Ella were more indicative of the crap relationship enslaving Ella. Sure, Catherine is a witch with a capital B, but Ella was a spitfire and sometimes talked back. So I wanted MORE to go down between the two of them. Also, the last chapter or two, just breezed by eight months later...and I wish that was also a bit more dramatic than what it is lead to believe. The book follows the POV of Darien and Ella, and sometimes it focused too much on the little things, so when the drama did happen, it fizzled pretty quickly and didn't pack quite the punch it could have. BUT. It was still a cute story, and I am still giving a decent rating. It was still entertaining, and one part in particular really had me teary. And when a book makes me cry, it gets a higher rating. We all need an ugly cry from time to time.Finally, I loved what the book means for nerd girls. Ella was this nerdy girl who really thought she was a nobody throughout the ENTIRE story. It took all of her challenges she did go through like befriending a moody coworker, helping create a cosplay costume, dealing with stepmonster and the evil twins, introducing others to the glory of Starfield, and making unconventional friends from the stars. In Darien's case, he sometimes came off whiney and I am not sure why it took him so long to take a stand. I felt that the drama between him and Brian could have been better written because it read weird. But I liked Darien. Closet geek. Those are the best. And remember, look to the stars. Aim. Ignite.

This one hit all my sweet spots: fairytale retelling, geek-centric, authentic voice, believably diverse cast, and sweet romance. I do adore a geek-centric story, when it comes from an honest fandom voice. My favorite is still (by far) The Geek's Guide to Unrequited Love, but this one is definitely in my top three. Here's why:♥ It's clever, but it sticks true to elements of Cinderella (especially the Ever After version), so while the major plot points were obviously going to happen, the hook and tension was in the details.♥ The text conversations/flirtations between Elle and Darien were sweet, funny, and believable.♥ Both main characters- heroine and hero- were developed. This isn't just Elle's show.♥ While the verbal abuse, manipulation, and controlling nightmare of Elle's house is present, it isn't the primary focus. It doesn't serve to develop her as a character more than her love for her deceased father, which feels authentic both to reality and to the original character of Cinderella (who has to have been clinging to something hopeful).♥ There's representation of the fandom community, both the good (community help) and the bad ("you aren't geek enough because you're a girl" b.s.)♥ Everyone not a villain has to take risks in this story in order to experience wonderful things. I think that's as important of a message for side characters as it is for main characters.In short, it's a sweet, believable romance. If you go to cons or write fanfic or are a fan of Firefly, Star Trek, BSG, etc., you'll enjoy it that much more. I recommend it for fans of contemporary YA romance, fairytale retellings, and the fandom community (especially those of us who grew up on scifi, thanks to our fathers).

This was a really cute read! I enjoyed the way the story was written with both main characters' point of view and the setting of it all. In this, we have ExcelsiCon (which makes it an even more fun approach for a Cinderella retelling) as well as Darien and Elle brought together through their love of Starfield."And if you want to be one of the lucky few to meet the Federation Prince himself, Midlight Entertainment is teaming up with ExcelsiCon this year to host a fan competition! Dress up as your favorite Starfield character and you could win once-in-a-lifetime tickets to ExcelsiCon's masquerade ball, where the winners will be treated to an exclusive meet-and-greet with our man Darien Freeman, plus tickets to the premiere of Starfield in L.A.!"I wasn't sure how this retelling would go, as many only have slight variations to them, but there was such a fun twist to this one it was hard not to like. The food truck that represented the pumpkin carriage was a great way to incorporate it in with all the other changes like the prince being an actor with a great personality and love for all things Starfield and Elle with a great heart who dreams big and loves all things spacey as well.Even though there were some parts too far-fetched like a perfect "prince charming" who's only real fault was his father/manager, or a stepmother who didn't really add much depth or change to things, it was everything else that kept me reading. I couldn't get enough of the Doctor Who references or how much I enjoyed the talk about ExcelsiCon as well as Elle and Sage working on the costume(s) for the Cosplay/ExcelsiCon Ball. The romance may have been a little much in the way it was played out (not safe at all in the real world) but it gave it that fairy-tale aspect that we daydream about. Not to leave out the feels it gives with ExcelsiCon added to the mix."A Torturian beside me mimics my salute. And a Nox. A Jedi. A Vulcan. A Dark Elf. The entire Fellowship of the Ring. Everyone, in their different-colored hair and costumes and masks, lifts their hands in promise-swears to show that underneath the robes and breastplates and Spandex are people whose hearts beat together. We might all be different--we may ship different things or be in different fandoms--but if I learned anything from twenty-three days in a too-blue uniform playing a character I thought I could never be, it's that when we become those characters, pieces of ourselves light up like glow stick in the night. They shine. We shine. Together."Geekerella, as the title references, has all the geeky feels and the lovey dovey ones that I was hoping for. It is a very unique take on the original fairytale and happy to see a few changes with characters that usually stay the same in every retelling. There were some things, as mentioned above, that I didn't love as much but they were minor compared to how much fun the reading was throughout this novel. I'm very glad I took the time to pick up this book and enjoy all the fandomness involved.

About the Author

Sabrina Wilk is a landscape architect. Born and raised in Toronto, she received her Bachelor degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Toronto, before going on to complete her Diplom Ingenieur degree in Architecture from the Technical University of Karlsruhe. She specialized in visual representation, analogue and digital graphics in landscape design. Since 2005, she is full-time Professor of Drawing and Visualization at the Faculty of Landscape Architecture, at the University of Applied Sciences Weihenstephan-Triesdorf. I've been looking forward to getting this book for months. It showed up today and I was eager to get the package open to start seeing all the glorious art from the UPA era.To say I was disappointed in my first impression is an under statement.Evidently in my haste to order this book I failed to read the description if it revealed this is a novel and not an "Art Of" book. Meaning - the treasure trove of illustrations and studies of the classic UPA era designs are NOT in this book. There are a few spot illustrations, but that's all.Unfortunately, if you were also hoping to refer to this book as a reference of sorts for UPA art - that it is not.I'm sure the author has done a fine job of researching and writing about the UPA studio, and I'll eventually sit down to read it at which time I may upgrade the review rating. However at present - 3 stars is generous considering I really was expecting an Art Book.IF your goal is finding a good reference book for UPA style art I recommend "Cartoon Modern", "Mr. Product" or "Ad Boy". I have all of those books and they are wonderful.

Under the strictest of secrecy the delegates decided that an entirely new form of government was needed. There would be a strong national government which would have three branches and there would be a Constitution to guide the policies of that government. Of course it took a long time for the delegates to agree on these matters but they did eventually come to the end of their discussions and the Constitution at last was approved. Readers who don t know much about what happened after the exciting happenings of the Fourth of July 1776, will find that this story will help them understand how the United States came to have its current form of government. An engaging and well written text, and an easy to follow graphic novel format makes this story from history perfectly suited to readers who normally find non-fiction stories uninteresting. Ok, I have been struggling lately. I've read some books that took my breath away and left me feeling empty at the end because they were over. Finito. Never to be new again to mine eyes. And I've tried and tried again and again to find another book series that would renew my reading fervor in the same fashion that those books did. And I tell you- the struggle is real. But Hettie Ivers saved me. She brought me back from my reading-love/unhealthy consumption withdrawal status. I am revived! Or I was... But dad-gummit now I've finished the books and the search begins again! *sigh*. But it looks like there's more to the story. Coming soon? I hope?So, why Hettie is my savior.So the book is very well written. Hettie has a fluid and broad grasp of language and imagery. Her characters are real and thoughtful and well-defined. They have distinct personalities that build a strong story and keep you engrossed in the story as it evolves. And evolve it does. She's not a story teller. She doesn't regurgitate the same story you've read 800 times with the same exact characters, plots but different names. She's a story builder. I loved that I could not predict where things were going or how it would all culminate in the end. Totally worth the read. Totally worth my return to no-book-read limbo. Thank you, Hettie.

Hettie Ivers continues to deliver with part three of the spellbinding Werelock series. In "Revenge of the Wronged (Werelock Evolution Book 3)" we continue protagonist Melina and werelock-lover, Alex's story as they finally defeat (almost all of) Melina's trust issues. Quick mention, this is the first book of the three read that this reader does actually recall seeing a few grammar, spelling or punctuation errors which, if memory serves, seemed to pop up around the midway point of the book. While not glaring enough to toss this reader from Ivers beautifully crafted worl, enough that they did remain in this reader's memory after finishing the tale and starting on the companion novella about Jussara.Dialogue continues to be strong and believable, true and authentic to the character speaking. Readers see a slightly different form of Melina's continual internal struggles to face lifes injustices and, let's face it, selfishness. Finally, Melina faces some of her internal demons and opens herself to trust and readers can witness a spurt of character growth within her. Our little girl is growing up! Ivers voice remains as warm and compelling as in the first two tales; settings are detailed enough to visualize and feel as if one is a flea on the back of a wolf, watching incidents unfold. Many subplot issues are resolved while another bigger one hangs in the balance - yeah, a bit of a cliff hanger, but if one read these stories simply to follow along Melina and Alex's romance, they can stop reading here if they chose to. Or, wait for the next installment to see how much trouble that one bigger issue will shove at the Reinoso pack - no, the entire world... and how it might cause problems for these werelock's many of us have come to adore. As a tiny spoiler, Melina even has to start facing the fact that she really doesn't know her brother Raul, at all... and he solidified into a real pr*ck in this readers eyes, too! *laughs*This reader opted to take a short break (*grins* a day!) before delving into the companion novella, and allowing the delicious series to simply gel inside of her for a bit... however, similar to Alex's addiction to Melina, this reader freely admits her own addiction to all of these gorgeous werelocks. Hence, only a days break before starting the next read... and yes, she continues to highly recommend the series and Ivers as a writer - even though the story of the Rogue, as started in the epilogue, didn't grab her as tightly as the previous books did. I'm hooked.

I have binge read the three books of Werelock Evolution in the last 1.5 days (and still did the laundry!) Milena and Alex's story moves seamlessly from one book to the next and this third book put it altogether and then some. Just a taste: Alex moves forcefully to win Milena's love, Milena learns more of what she holds in her blood, brother Raul, BFF Bethany and all the other characters provide humor, angst, familial fighting and less tears (thank goodness). What a busy and twisting tale of revenge, wolf pack politics and -- overshadowing it all the prophecy of a decade of darkness to come. None of the above gives an adequate feeling of the depth of emotions and action present throughout the story. And the ultimate bad guy/gal -- I never would have guessed. Devious Hettie Ivers fooled me all along. Great entertainment with not a minute wasted of my time.

While Revenge of the Wronged brings the story of Milena and Alex to a somewhat satisfying conclusion, all the other characters are yet to find their HEA. There are many loose ends still dangling.In the course of the story Dr. Kai's long thought dead mate Maribel returns and wrecks havoc on the pack, only to leave with Milena's blood curse. Complex story with plenty of action in and out of the bedroom.Plot:4.5Writing: 5Editing: 4.9Characters: 4.5Heat index: 4.5
