I bought this after our Boston trip. It is a visual delight of all the wonderful places we visit in this historical (my new favorite) American city.

Bought it to be a souvenir of my recent visit there. I was pleased to find a book such as this that highlighted the history of this very historic city.

Great book, I keep it in the living room. My guests love to look at and discuss when visiting.

I really enjoy looking at the old and new side by side and I also like the brief synopsis that accompanies each. Quite enjoyable and in some instances a trip down memory lane!

We just spent several days in Boston and this was the perfect memories book. Also purchased one for our family who were with us.

I received my copy of this fantastic text three days ago; then I put all my attention to scam it. I'm a disciple of Dr. Ghaemi philosophy and viewpoints since my early years of residency until now. Every piece of thought written by him embraces the "humanistic psychiatry" approach. This is not a classical Psychopharmacology text, like those of Dr. Stahl. The text is aimed at curbing the "neuromythology" of following theoretical knowledge for caring of patients without valid clinical evidence. It challenges the common "Galenic" approach of relying on neurotransmitter changes and promote the "Hippocratic" approach to treat only identified diseases and give symptoms watchful care without harm. The text presents a philosophy for the humanistic mental health care more than presenting drug info. Dr. Ghaemi has put a lot of his personal experience tips on managing adverse drug problems. I think this text is complimentary and augmenting other classical neuroscientific books of Psychopharmacology. Whatever the drug x is changing they neurotransmitter or modulating the z receptor, don't rely on this without valid clinical data from controlled trials. This is the bottom line of the text.

I am going to school to become a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. The Stahl Books were used as our textbooks, but I wanted another viewpoint. This book is new so it has up-to-date Information on new series and new drugs. The Author puts forward some very interesting information about all matters regarding treating mental health issues. As a student I love this book because it makes me think about things in a different way and provide so much information. Neuroanatomy and neurobiology can be challenging for me,but this doctor/author writes well and explains things in a way that I can understand! Highly recommended for those becoming PMHNPs.

Dr. Ghaemi is brilliant, honest and science based. Psychiatry has suffered at the hands of the DSM. We are the only medical profession that treats "Disorders" vs "Disease". Symptom prescribing is non-scientific and dangerous. Dr. Ghaemi's Psychopharm. book is a beautiful guide to science based prescribing.

Really did learn a lot about bipolar disorder and how to better treat it.

Simply the best psychopharmacology book I ever read !

This book is very thorough and well outlined. This author knows his material and clearly explains the topics.

Absolutamente indispensable para cualquier psiquiatra que se precie de seriedad en su desempeño profesional.

Always and Forever, Lara Jean 1 I LIKE TO WATCH PETER when he doesn’t know I’m looking. I like to admire the straight line of his jaw, the curve of his cheekbone. There’s an openness to his face, an innocence—a certain kind of niceness. It’s the niceness that touches my heart the most. It’s Friday night at Gabe Rivera’s house after the lacrosse game. Our school won, so everyone is in very fine spirits, Peter most of all, because he scored the winning shot. He’s across the room playing poker with some of the guys from his team; he is sitting with his chair tipped back, his back against the wall. His hair is still wet from showering after the game. I’m on the couch with my friends Lucas Krapf and Pammy Subkoff, and they’re flipping through the latest issue of Teen Vogue, debating whether or not Pammy should get bangs. “What do you think, Lara Jean?” Pammy asks, running her fingers through her carrot-colored hair. Pammy is a new friend—I’ve gotten to know her because she dates Peter’s good friend Darrell. She has a face like a doll, round as a cake pan, and freckles dust her face and shoulders like sprinkles. “Um, I think bangs are a very big commitment and not to be decided on a whim. Depending on how fast your hair grows, you could be growing them out for a year or more. But if you’re serious, I think you should wait till fall, because it’ll be summer before you know it, and bangs in the summer can be sort of sticky and sweaty and annoying. . . .” My eyes drift back to Peter, and he looks up and sees me looking at him, and raises his eyebrows questioningly. I just smile and shake my head. “So don’t get bangs?” My phone buzzes in my purse. It’s Peter. Do you want to go? No. Then why were you staring at me? Because I felt like it. Lucas is reading over my shoulder. I push him away, and he shakes his head and says, “Are you guys really texting each other when you’re only twenty feet away?” Pammy crinkles up her nose and says, “So adorable.” I’m about to answer them when I look up and see Peter sweeping across the room toward me with purpose. “Time to get my girl home,” he says. “What time is it?” I say. “Is it that late already?” Peter’s hoisting me off the couch and helping me into my jacket. Then he pulls me by the hand and leads me through Gabe’s living room. Looking over my shoulder, I wave and call out, “Bye, Lucas! Bye, Pammy! For the record, I think you would look great with bangs!” “Why are you walking so fast?” I ask as Peter marches me through the front yard to the curb where his car is parked. He stops in front of the car, pulls me toward him, and kisses me, all in one fast motion. “I can’t concentrate on my cards when you stare at me like that, Covey.” “Sorry,” I start to say, but he is kissing me again, his hands firm on my back. When we’re in his car, I look at the dashboard and see that it’s only midnight. I say, “I still have an hour until I have to be home. What should we do?” Of the people we know, I’m the only one with an actual curfew. When the clock strikes one o’clock, I turn into a pumpkin. Everyone is used to it by now: Peter Kavinsky’s Goody Two-shoes girlfriend who has to be home by one. I’ve never once minded having a curfew. Because truly, it’s not like I’m missing out on anything so wonderful—and what’s that old saying? Nothing good happens after two a.m. Unless you happen to be a fan of watching people play flip cup for hours on end. Not me. No, I’d much prefer to be in my flannel pajamas with a cup of Night-Night tea and a book, thank you very much. “Let’s just go to your house. I want to come inside and say hi to your dad and hang out for a bit. We could watch the rest of Aliens.” Peter and I have been working our way down our movie list, which consists of my picks (favorite movies of mine that he’s never seen), his picks, (favorite movies of his that I’ve never seen), and movies neither of us have seen. Aliens was Peter’s pick, and it’s turning out to be quite good. And even though once upon a time Peter claimed he didn’t like rom coms, he was very into Sleepless in Seattle, which I was relieved for, because I just don’t see how I could be with someone who doesn’t like Sleepless in Seattle. “Let’s not go home yet,” I say. “Let’s go somewhere.” Peter thinks about it for a minute, tapping his fingers on the steering wheel, and then he says, “I know where we can go.” “Where?” “Wait and see,” he says, and he puts the windows down, and the crisp night air fills the car. I lean back into my seat. The streets are empty; the lights are off in most of the houses. “Let me guess. We’re going to the diner because you want blueberry pancakes.” “Nope.” “Hmm. It’s too late to go to Starbucks, and Biscuit Soul Food is closed.” “Hey, food isn’t the only thing I think about,” he objects. Then: “Are there any cookies left in that Tupperware?” “They’re all gone, but I might have some more at home, if Kitty didn’t eat them all.” I dip my arm out the window and let it hang. Not many more nights left like these, where it’s cool enough to need a jacket. I look at Peter’s profile out of the corner of my eye. Sometimes I still can’t believe he’s mine. The handsomest boy of all the handsome boys is mine, all mine. “What?” he says. “Nothing,” I say. Ten minutes later, we are driving onto the University of Virginia campus, only nobody calls it campus; they call it Grounds. Peter parks along the side of the street. It’s quiet for a Friday night in a college town, but it’s UVA’s spring break, so a lot of kids are still gone. We’re walking across the lawn, his hand in mine, when I’m hit with a sudden wave of panic. I stop short and ask, “Hey, you don’t think it’s bad luck for me to come here before I’m actually in, do you?” Peter laughs. “It’s not a wedding. You’re not marrying UVA.” “Easy for you to say, you’re already in.” Peter gave a verbal commitment to the UVA lacrosse team last year, and then he applied early action in the fall. Like with most college athletes, he was all but in, so long as his grades stayed decent. When he got the official yes back in January, his mom threw a party for him and I baked a cake that said, I’m taking my talents to UVA in yellow frosting. Peter pulls me by the hand and says, “Come on, Covey. We make our own luck. Besides, we were here two months ago for that thing at the Miller Center.” I relax. “Oh, yeah.” We continue our walk across the lawn. I know where we’re going now. To the Rotunda, to sit on the steps. The Rotunda was designed by Thomas Jefferson, who founded the school, and he modeled it after the Pantheon, with its white columns and big domed top. Peter runs up the brick steps Rocky-style and plops down. I sit down in front of him, leaning back and resting my arms on the tops of his knees. “Did you know,” I begin, “that one of the things that makes UVA unique is that the center of the school, right there inside the Rotunda, is a library and not a church? It’s because Jefferson believed in the separation between school and church.” “Did you read that in the brochure?” Peter teases, planting a kiss on my neck. Dreamily, I say, “I learned it when I went on the tour last year.” “You didn’t tell me you went on a tour. Why would you go on a tour when you’re from here? You’ve been here a million times!” He’s right that I’ve been here a million times—I grew up going here with my family. When my mom was still alive, we’d go see the Hullabahoos perform because my mom loved a cappella. We had our family portrait taken on the lawn. On sunny days after church, we’d come picnic out here. I twist around to look at Peter. “I went on the tour because I wanted to know everything about UVA! Stuff I wouldn’t know just by living around here. Like, do you know what year they let women in?” He scratches the back of his neck. “Uh . . . I don’t know. When was the school founded? The early 1800s? So, 1920?” “Nope. 1970.” I turn back around and face forward, looking out onto the grounds. “After a hundred and fifty years.” Intrigued, Peter says, “Whoa. That’s crazy. Okay, tell me more facts about UVA.” “UVA is America’s only collegiate World Heritage UNESCO site in all of the United States,” I begin. “Never mind, don’t tell me more facts about UVA,” Peter says, and I slap him on the knee. “Tell me something else instead. Tell me what you’re looking forward to most about going to school here.” “You go first. What are you most excited about?” Right away, Peter says, “That’s easy. Streaking the lawn with you.” “That’s what you’re looking forward to more than anything? Running around naked?” Hastily I add, “I’m never doing that, by the way.” He laughs. “It’s a UVA tradition. I thought you were all about UVA traditions.” “Peter!” “I’m just kidding.” He leans forward and puts his arms around my shoulders, rubbing his nose in my neck the way he likes to do. “Your turn.” I let myself dream about it for a minute. If I get in, what am I most looking forward to? There are so many things, I can hardly name them all. I’m looking forward to eating waffles every day with Peter in the dining hall. To us sledding down O-Hill when it snows. To picnics when it’s warm. To staying up all night talking and then waking up and talking some more. To late-night laundry and last-minute road trips. To . . . everything. Finally I say, “I don’t want to jinx it.” “Come on!” “Okay, okay . . . I guess I’m most looking forward to . . . to going to the McGregor Room whenever I want.” People call it the Harry Potter room, because of the rugs and chandeliers and leather chairs and the portraits on the wall. The bookshelves go from the floor to the ceiling, and all of the books are behind metal grates, protected like the precious objects they are. It’s a room from a different time. It’s very hushed—reverential, even. There was this one summer—I must have been five or six, because it was before Kitty was born—my mom took a class at UVA, and she used to study in the McGregor Room. Margot and I would color, or read. My mom called it the magic library, because Margot and I never fought inside of it. We were both quiet as church mice; we were so in awe of all the books, and of the older kids studying. Peter looks disappointed. I’m sure it’s because he thought I would name something having to do with him. With us. But for some reason, I want to keep those hopes just for me for now. “You can come with me to the McGregor Room,” I say. “But you have to promise to be quiet.” Affectionately Peter says, “Lara Jean, only you would look forward to hanging out in a library.” Actually, judging by Pinterest alone, I’m pretty sure a lot of people would look forward to hanging out in such a beautiful library. Just not people Peter knows. He thinks I’m so quirky. I’m not planning on being the one to break the news to him that I’m actually not that quirky, that in fact lots of people like to stay home and bake cookies and scrapbook and hang out in libraries. Most of them are probably in their fifties, but still. I like the way he looks at me, like I am a wood nymph that he happened upon one day and just had to take home to keep. Peter pulls his phone out of his hoodie pocket. “It’s twelve thirty. We should go soon.” “Already?” I sigh. I like being here late at night. It feels like the whole place is ours. In my heart, it was always UVA. I’ve never really expected to go anywhere else, or even really thought about it. I was going to apply early when Peter did, but my guidance counselor, Mrs. Duvall, advised me against applying early action, because she said it would be better to wait so they could see my senior mid-year grades. According to Mrs. Duvall, it’s always best to apply at your peak moment. And so I ended up applying to five schools. At first it was just going to be UVA, the hardest to get into and only fifteen minutes from home; William and Mary, the second hardest to get into and also my second choice (two hours away); and then University of Richmond and James Madison, both only an hour away, in a tie for third choice. All in state. But then Mrs. Duvall urged me to apply to just one out-of-state school, just in case, just to have the option—so I applied to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It’s really hard to get into out-of-states, but I picked it because it reminds me of UVA. It has a strong liberal arts program, and it’s not too far away, close enough to come home in a hurry if I needed to. But if I had the choice, I would still pick UVA every time. I’ve never wanted to be far from home. I’m not like my big sister. Going far away, that was her dream. She’s always wanted the world. I just want home, and for me, UVA is home, which is why it’s the college I’ve measured all other colleges against. The perfect storybook campus, the perfect everything. And, of course, Peter. We stay a bit longer, me telling Peter more facts about UVA and Peter making fun of me for knowing so many facts about UVA. Then he drives me home. It’s nearly one a.m. when we pull up in front of my house. The downstairs lights are all off, but my dad’s bedroom light is on. He never goes to bed until I’m home. I’m about to hop out when Peter reaches across me and stops me from opening the door. “Give me my good-night kiss,” he says. I laugh. “Peter! I have to go.” Stubbornly he closes his eyes and waits, and I lean forward and plant a quick kiss on his lips. “There. Satisfied?” “No.” He kisses me again like we have all the time in the world and says, “What would happen if I came back after everyone went to sleep, and I spent the night, and left really early in the morning? Like, before dawn?” Smiling, I say, “You can’t, so we’ll never know.” “But what if?” “My dad would kill me.” “No, he wouldn’t.” “He’d kill you.” “No, he wouldn’t.” “No, he wouldn’t,” I agree. “But he’d be pretty disappointed in me. And he’d be mad at you.” “Only if we got caught,” Peter says, but it’s halfhearted. He won’t risk it either. He’s too careful about staying in my dad’s good graces. “You know what I’m really looking forward to the most?” He gives my braid a tug before saying, “Not having to say good night. I hate saying good night.” “Me too,” I say. “I can’t wait until we’re at college.” “Me too,” I say, and I kiss him one more time before jumping out of the car and running toward my house. On the way, I look up at the moon, at all the stars that cover the night sky like a blanket, and I make a wish. Dear God, please, please let me get into UVA.

It felt so right to leave Lara Jean and her story with this book. I loved all the pop culture references and the sweet moments between her growing family and Peter. Despite the plan of this series being only two books, this addition does not seem forced. The story flows just a well as the first two and I finished this book completely satisfied with the ending! I was not disappointed whatsoever.

I am floating on Cloud Nine after reading Always and Forever, Lara Jean. Jenny Han surprised her fans with the most heartfelt novel in the series! Always and Forever, Lara Jean sparkles with its pop culture references, Lara Jean's pursuit for the perfect chocolate chip recipe, Peter's charm and of course the sisterly bonding between the Song sisters. The novel dives in around Easter time during Lara Jean's senior year of high school. Everyone is waiting to hear back from college and Lara Jean is super nervous to see where she gets accepted to. Readers are reunited with returning characters and are introduced to some new faces. Always and Forever, Lara Jean is a roller coaster full of emotions with a forthcoming wedding, a death of a loved one and senior year with its ongoing anticipation of going off to college.Always and Forever, Lara Jean shows realistic display of anticipation for the college waiting game. The excitement and the upset are both on point and the ups and the downs of relationships are true. But in the end, everything is worth it. Although people may have certain thoughts about Lara Jean's and Peter's relationship, it is ultimately Lara Jean's and Peter's decision that matters. Through best of times and the worst of times, they stayed strong. Both write their own story as they mature from book 1 to book 3. Although, I always rooted for a Lara Jean and John Ambrose McClaren shipping, Miss Han's ending of the novel brings the series full circle because, after all, it all started with a love letter. The message in Lara Jean's yearbook from Peter is perfection! I don't want to spoil it but you MUST pick up this book if you've read the first two books in the series. For those who haven't read To All the Boys I've Loved Before, add it to your TBR list. In fact, marathon To All the Boys I've Loved Before, P.S. I Still Love You and Always and Forever, Lara Jean!

"Peter will love Lara Jean with all his heart, always"I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS BOOK FOR LIKE EVER.I have missed Lara Jean for YEARSSSSS.So thank you Jenny Han for finally giving this book to me. So before I even started this book, I swear, I looked at it and said... "Damn you Lara Jean, you better still be with Peter and stay with him for the rest of your life or I will drop this book into my fireplace and never read you again." (Yes, I can be that dramatic). Luckily the book is still intact with no fire damage. So, Always and Forever, Lara Jean, is a follow-up to Lara Jean's story. In this book you are following her throughout her senior year of high school, and boy is she busy. She's preparing for college, her dad is getting married, her sister Margot is coming home, oh and she's still in love (like head over heels baby) with boyfriend Peter. She wants everything to stay on its course and go has planned...but of course Jenny couldn't let that happen. What good is a book without the main character going through something. It isn't, so of course Lara Jean's plans get ruined and now she has to change her plans drastically.I love how Lara Jean's character continues to grow and I am actually really sad that there's not going to be another book. Also, I enjoyed getting more of the sisters too :) I think I read a review on the book and it said "A world without Peter Kavinsky would be a very sad world indeed" AND I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THAT. I am so happy they didn't stay broken up--because again...I would've burned this book without looking back. If you haven't noticed I love his character and I love their relationship. Honestly they are so darn cute and are truly a realistic high school relationship. They are going through relatable decisions that an everyday high school student goes through, heck even college or adults. The one character I 100% did not like was Peter's mom. I wanted to bitch slap her so hard. I hope no parent treats her like that ever.I will definitely be re-reading this trilogy for as long as I live because I just love Jenny Han and her writing. I really need to read her other books. Please don't ever stop writing Jenny :(

My kids LOVE it. Me, not so much. SO tired of listening to the jokes. I guess I am not the target audience.

Granddaughter, age 9 and adores cats, drove me nuts in the car reading the jokes to me. They were mostly real groaners and she couldn't wait to inflict them on her parents and friends. Full of cute cat photos, too. And yes, she was well aware they were stupid jokes, but still fun.

My daughters love cats. They love jokes. This book, hence, was perfect for a Cmas present. Even the cat thinks it's funny!

My daughter, 10 years old, who loves cats thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. She got several giggles over the jokes and also learned some facts she didn't know! Will be buying more from this series!

Kids may like this, but I ordered it by mistake so I found the jokes 'so-so' cute.

This fun book is filled with a huge amount of color photos of all kinds of cats in all kinds of positions of fun and laughter. Besides the adorable jokes and riddles it is accented with cat trivia. It is a perfect gift for my granddaughter who is a big authority on all kinds of cats and loves to have fun too!

Gift for child. Heard he enjoyed the jokes.

It was a big hit with my granddaughter.

From the Back Cover

Emphasizing the visual and graphic techniques of navigation, Boater's Bowditch is a small-boat adaptation of the preeminent navigation reference for commercial and naval sailors, the U.S. government's American Practical Navigator ("Bowditch" for short, after the editor and writer of the first edition published in 1802). With hundreds of diagrams and photographs, this handy book is an indispensable resource for beginning and advanced navigators. It explains in plain English all the basic and most practical concepts and techniques used by professional navigators. It's the first truly comprehensive guide to modern navigation tools such as GPS and electronic charts. Boater's Bowditch fulfills Nathaniel Bowditch's original vow "to put down in the book nothing I can't teach the crew." "What John Wycliffe did to the Bible in the 14th century, Hubbard has done to the American Practical Navigator, bringing it down to a level most people can understand."--Ocean Navigator "Hubbard has done an excellent job. I have been operating small boats on our waters for at least the last 20 years, and virtually every chapter told me something that was not only interesting but in many cases new to me."--Greenwich Time "If you have been put off by navigation texts in the past, here is one which was intended to make navigation easy and understandable."--Dockside "It covers every essential element of navigation know-how in clear, concise explanations. . . . Novices and experienced sailors alike will appreciate the book's logical organization."--Mariner

Excellent source for marine information. Chapters cover some important information not found in other places.

Both the experienced navigator and the neophyte will find this book very useful. Through clearly written explanations and useful diagrams, Hubbard makes difficult concepts simple and easy to understand. His treatment is among the most up-to-date in the field of navigation (which is important in these days of rapidly advancing technologies) and he writes with the requisite authority (his professional credentials are impeccable). This is a clever adaptation of THE book on navigation (Bowditch's American Practical Navigator)--all serious navigators rely on Bowditch for detail and advanced concepts, and Hubbard has adapted the information for popular use while maintaining the integrity of the source. Highly recommended for the beginner and for the old salt who wants to review and update his or her knowledge.

The Disney Way provides a fantastic means for jump-starting any organizations customer service approach. This book provides the foundation for implementing a customer centric cultural transformation that will run deep within your organization, and that will provide for long-term changes. This is not simply about sprinkling a bit of magic on the outside and hoping that it holds. The Disney Way starts with buy-in from leadership, invites front-line employees to develop a foundation, and leaves employees with the fundamentals necessary to make positive customer oriented decisions. Bill and Lynn do a great job presenting Disney's key principles to success, and mixing in many examples from the companies they have worked with in a way that is easily digested and makes clear the reward of the long-term commitment needed for execution. This new edition is made better by the addition of government organizations. Having spoken with Ottawa County and seen their customer service first-hand in preparing our own organization, I can assure you the chapter is no exaggeration of how profound an impact the Disney Way can have. Thank you for another great book!

This book has some great tidbits but I found overall that the book sounded more like a sales pitch. I had many moments where they touched on something interesting but left off with a "if you want to know more, you should participate in the retreat!" Type passage.

I just got done reading, this book.I felt that it wasn't really great at all. Good maybe, OK maybe, but not great. Its mostly a few sparse pages of some Disney history and and anecdotal stuff (which i wanted to read a lot more of)And the rest are these droning accounts from other "successful" companies in a wide array of industries. supposedly shaping their style after Disney Co.Lots and lots of case studies and the one discussed in the most detail of them all is the "whirlpool no frost" team. Don't get me wrong its a great account that they use to tie into the book. using the whole DREAM, BELIEVE, DARE, DO. principles that Walt Disney pioneered so long ago. This along with several other examples of companies adopting these really great principles. My problem with it was that it got very boring as it slugged on and on about whirlpool more than any other company. The other thing i found disappointing was how it seemed after the first chapter that the book wasn't even about Disney anymore, but more about these other handful of companies that the authors decided they wanted to stroke ever so vigorously. It went on to espouse the virtues of Disney Co. and what a fantastic place to work, and grow your career, etc. If only more companies would take a page from Disney's book then the world would be a better place so on and so on.Like I said this is an average book not totally terrible , and its a worth while read i think if you could get through it in one sitting. Since i couldn't though, it got to be very preachy and boring to me.I am a huge fan of all things Disney and in my opinion may even be a little biased because I do believe in the principles discussed in the book, and generally used to love WDW. But having recently made a trip to the Magic Kingdom Several months ago. I have to tell you that I did not see any of those principles being practiced anywhere. And other than a boring book, that is what stands out to me the most - the actual REAL live customer experience. and it was a BAD one!In one of the last chapter of the book, they begin to vilify (as with any Disney story it seemed appropriate to have a villain.) Michael Eisner and how he was both the savior of the company but ultimately led to its degradation as well. And while all that is probably true, i still didn't see much of a difference in quality or service the last time i visited the park. I was actually quite disappointed. What does this have to do with this book though?Well i think ts all a bunch of hyped up baloney is what. Anybody can interview PR reps and read press releases, and copy and paste a companies corp. philosophy, bio and make a good story out of it. Anybody can interview CEO's and COO's and say "well we now we have a clear picture of this company and their culture their values." But it would be a lie.I was not impressed with the promotion job the authors performed while sounding the trumpet for all of these other companies and while it all sounds like they are leading the revolution to a shift in corporate culture, the truth is all this book did was paint a pretty picture of principles not practice. And anybody can sell that story, I on the other hand want to hear the REAL story. The REAL successes and The REAL failures, and the REAL state of things. This book did one thing very well. Like Disney is took us to a world of fantasy and wonder. As it showed us examples of a bunch of other people supposedly applying the Disney Way. No where in the book does it say however " we modeled this or that after Walt Disney, and Disney Co."It paints this nice picture of a world where companies put their employees and teams first, and a commitment, a real commitment to quality and ultimately the consumer first. The truth; however is less appealing, just as my recent unpleasant visit to Disney proved. In the REAL world, things aren't as nice as in the stories. So to wrap this up, as I stated earlier. Its not a Bad book at all. Its just not a Great book either. its O.K., It's mediocre at best. It's a cheap - thrown together fluff job with fancy trimmings and a shiny foil wrapping. like most things we buy now days. DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE!(I know no companies perfect, OK i get it.) However we as consumers and as a nation need to start demanding "Don't just Tell me, Don't just Sell me, instead Show me what your really about, Prove it!." Put your money where your mouth is and we'll see who's telling the truth. everything else is just hot-aired waste of time! Like This Book Was For Me.

I have to start by saying I am a sucker for business stories that are well written and capture the journey of a company...through good and bad. This book takes the Disney story to a new level by providing tangible learnings and practices that are shared in an easy to understand manner. In fact, I can say that this book has contributed to the success of our company by providing some real tools we implemented almost immediately. But don't take my word for it. Here is the real bones of why you need this book.1. Teach everyone to dream (yes everyone) and make them come true;2. Have passion and believe that you can achieve3. Customers pay the bills...never forget that4. Work as a unified team5. Share the recognition6. Perfect practice prevent poor performance7. Communicate the magic in an easy to understand mannerIf these simple yet effective principles resonate for you then buy the book. Read...re-read...and take notes. This book is not a how to guide but it really does provide enough information and context to enable you to...

Those four simple words are at the root of the Disney business philosophy, established by Walt himself and carried on by Michael Eisner. I found this book to be both entertaining and informative. The business principles outlined by Capodagli and Jackson seem like simple, common sense - but bear repeating numerous times until more businesses adopt them. Principles like encouraging innovation (and even failure, since you learn how *not* to do something) ... building on the strengths of your employees (development plans instead of demeaning performance appraisals) ... all will make any business work better. I found numerous ideas here that I will be applying in my workplace as well as to my personal life. This is a must-read for any manager who wants to motivate his or her team to really excel -- and for any employee who wants to be his or her personal best.

If you've ever wondered what really goes on in the halls of Langley, check out Ronald Kessler's fantastic book. Kessler has gone in depth, interviewing key figures inside each of the CIA's directorates and goes into much of the agency's history, both good and bad. This is a fantastic resource for any novelist (like me) who wants a better understanding of the CIA, operations, and intelligence gathering. This book was suggested to me by a former operations office in the CIA as the single best source of info on the Agency available to a civilian and he was right. I'm glad I picked this up. It's a slow read, but worth the time and effort. I have a much better understanding and appreciation for what intelligence experts go through. If you are a fan of the CIA, or just want to know how America collects intelligence to protect the country, pick this book up!

The author received the cooperation of the CIA in the writing of this book. As you can imagine, I think that both helped and hindered him.How it helped: We get a nice look at a day in the life of the Director. We get a clear explanation of how the CIA functions as an organization. We get an idea of how the different branches within the CIA feel about each other and the rivalries they nurse. We get an interesting look into the mindset of the officers, today and yesterday. We get an interesting look at how the personality of an individual Director affects the way the organization does business. How it hurt: The CIA is presented the way the CIA wants to be seen. It comes across as little more than a big 'ol benevolent think tank with daring aspirations of bureaucratic inertia. It is strongly implied that the most nefarious activities they engage in during this modern era are fishing the fecal matter of foreign dignitaries out of hotel room toilets and recruiting OTHER people to spy. While I don't doubt things like this make up the bulk of the daily grind for Operations Officers, I also had the strong feeling the job descriptions of the Operations Directorate were... neutered. If you're expecting an officially sanctioned expose, this is NOT it. If you're looking to understand the culture of the CIA and how it functions as an organization to do what it does (whatever that is) this book offers a tantalizing look, but you have the feeling you're only seeing the tip of the iceberg.

I've thoroughly enjoyed this glimpse into the inner workings of the world's most powerful spy agency. Kessler does a very nice job outlining the multiple Directorates within the CIA while offering interesting anecdotes and tidbits about various past players within each Directorate. I especially enjoyed the different profiles of past CIA directors. The author consulted both with retired employees and people who are still employed with the United States government today. A good example is Robert Gates, recent Secretary of Defense and past director of the CIA. Kessler's writing covers both criticism and accolades, giving this book a well-rounded feel. Having never read much concerning the CIA, I cannot offer a perspective on whether this book agrees with other works on the agency. As a stand alone read I found it to be informative and thought provoking. For someone who has no idea how the CIA works this is a nice place to start.

Not nearly as interesting as I had hoped for. It's a great read before bed. I can usually swipe through a handful of pages and I'm asleep. Was hoping for more. It's an older book (my fault for not looking deeper) than I would have liked. Not as current as I'd hoped it would be. If I had my choice on this book and another, I'd choose the other.

I was hoping for a book that was more the STORY of the CIA: what does if feel like to work in each department, does it really do all the nefarious, against-the-law stuff of the movies? The book gave a good structural overview of the Agency but it didn't reveal any dirty linen (like, was some rouge part of the Agency behind the JFK assassination?)The book was functional, informative and a bit dull. I'll have to keep digging for the dirty tricks department rumored to have .... what?

This is a well-researched book on the CIA. However, a CIA officer told me that Kessler tends to take topics he is ignorant of and speculate about them yet writting as if it were objective fact. This was the case with his book Moscow Station. If you ever speak with anyone who spent time in the American Embassy (which I have), you'll likely hear the same thing. However, this book is interesting but it leaves you to wonder if what is written is really true. As I said I used to work in embassies so I know for a fact SOME of it is very true, but I can't speak for what I have not seen. All in all I recommend this book if your interested in the CIA but read other books by different authors so you can compare and contrast.

This book is so awesome!! I don't want to mislead anyone- it's a very short and simple book. But, it is truly the premier primer on introducing what the LSAT is- literally. I have been terrified of 'starting' the LSAT journey because of my suboptimal scores on standardized tests. Prior to reading this book, I felt that standardized test controlled me and I had no power over my score. This book helped me understand that YOU/me have most of the control because the test is just what it is and YOU/me just have to know what that is to get our best score! If you understand the test then your score should certainly increase with diligent practice and genuine commitment.I like this book but love the author more because he dares to go deeper and helps the student understand the LSAT instead of just teaching it. His book reminds me of the saying, "Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime."My fears of the LSAT were captured and killed by this book. I am ready for war! I rarely write reviews because frankly I don't have time. But, it was the reviews of others that prompted me to buy this book so I feel like I owe it to others to say "Hey, this book has changed the LSAT game for me." I will be able to study better since I know that I have more control over my score than LSAC. As a matter of fact, for the first time I am ready for the games to begin. Thank you Nathan Fox for helping me realize that I can kill this Goliath!Because I believe this author is truly dedicated to helping others get their best score on LSAT, I have purchased and will be starting his online LSAT prep course, Fox LSAT on Demand, as soon as materials/textbooks arrive. I recommend that others read this book prior to studying any prep materials. For example, if you go to the gym and do 100 squats everyday but never learn proper form, you could potentially be wasting your time and see no results or even worse injure yourself. It's better to understand the LSAT before you tackle it. Do yourself a favor and start with proper form. This book is the way to start.

I have been studying for the LSAT for a while and wanted to read something rather than practice another game or another 35-minute set for the hundredth time. This was perfect. It's a short piece; took me about 2 hours overall. Yet, I feel like I've actually learned something new to help me strategize and quit glossing over the reading comprehension passages. I'd recommend this to anyone that wants supplemental material to their practice tests. I kind of wish that it were longer just because I liked his no-bs style that much.

A good value, especially at the price of the Kindle edition. I'd recommend this as a useful prelude for those who, like me, don't intend to purchase other books or courses besides the practice tests in LSAC's PrepTest series. This book contains some useful techniques and tips.Kindle edition notes: it's not compatible with my Voyage, which caused me some head-scratching as to why my Kindle device was grayed out in the "deliver to:" drop-down menu. And there is some material for which the paper version would be more convenient in switching back and forth from the question text to discussion a few pages later, as the Kindle shows only one page at a time.

I love Nathan's sense of humor and no-nonsense approach to the LSAT. This is a bare-bones, beginner book - that is to say, it very quickly outlines the test and gives tips and tricks to get through it. It goes over each type of Analytical Reason question in depth, which I found very helpful. I would definitely purchase his other books. His point of view is so refreshing, and I loved the sometimes crass way he refers to the test - everyone is already thinking it!

This book is just what I needed to dip a toe into the world of LSAT prep and create a preliminary study plan. It provides an overview of the different test sections and question types you'll encounter. It uses real LSAT questions as examples and provides straightforward but substantive explanations for each-- no tricks or gimmicks or complicated techniques. Nathan Fox swears liberally, as others have noted, so take heed if you're easily offended, but it feels to me like just an outgrowth of his no-BS approach to the test. Well worth the price, as it showed me quickly what I need to focus on so I can direct my LSAT prep resources to the areas of greatest need.

As someone who did not know anything about the LSAT exam, this book has been a great help in giving me a lay of the land. I appreciate the fact that it is concise. This book takes away a lot of the fear factor of the exam, while at the same time, explaining the reality that practice is needed on my part. I believe that this book is a gem and a good place to start in preparing for the LSAT!

A must read for anyone considering law school! This author is phenomenal and made the book an easy read while also creating a pleasant environment with humor and relatable phrases. He even has all of his personal information included in lieu of additional questions and encourages students to contact him. He also has a podcast which I listen to every day on my way to work and I absolutely love the methods, tips, and tricks used to get a higher score. Also makes the LSAT seem like it could even go from being tortorous to being mildly fun. Get this book!!

I'm giving this book 5 stars but while I think the book does a great job at quickly and thoughtfully breaking down the LR section, it's merely an intro for the other 2 graded sections. This is evidenced by the fact that 3/4 of the book is dedicated to LR while the remainder is split between the other 2.With that said however, I'm now flying through LR questions so definitely worth it!!! After reading this book, Nathan is the little voice inside my head while I'm doing LR questions just because he makes the explanations so relatable! Maybe that's because I, myself, am a "potty mouth" with a borderline offensive humor but it works for me. I also love the arrested development reference!Definitely worth the cheap price tag but I'd pay several times that for this little gem.
