Gardening in both the Northeast and Southwest has been my favorite hobby over twenty-five years, and I also have collected books on anything gardening. Michelle gives simple presentations about different types of foods and the importance to our health for all ages, describes the trials-and-tribulations from planting to harvest, and the joy of including our children on fun gardening projects. The excitement of growing lettuce, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and much more is interesting for all. She also includes fragrance and scented plants such as herbs, and what to plant in different seasons. The First Lady includes stunning photos that will brighten up our day, yummy recipes, and helpful gardening tips. I highly recommend "AMERICAN GROWN" to all garden lovers, and to families who enjoy sharing the intriguing world of gardening. Loved this book! I loved that Mrs. Obama had the vision to create a garden and inspire her family and country to eat better. I was proud of the Obama family for bringing nutrition, and CLASS to the White House.
As a vegetable/fruit/flower gardener for three dozen years now who has accumulated nearly as many garden books, my family reminded me that we hardly needed another "garden book." Yet my gardening interests have grown over many years to include promoting children's gardens in schoolyards, at summer camps, and giving workshops in libraries and in community gardens to demostrate best environmental practices and to answer questions. This book can give hope and joy to individuals, families, and gardening groups who want to make a difference in how we can all grow organically cultivated crops for the table and enjoy the harvest of our efforts. I give credit to First Lady Michelle Obama for using the center stage of the White House Kitchen Garden to improve the nutritional and physical health of individuals who learn by experience what it takes to grow colorful, tasty food in a garden. The photos in this book are inspirational and the Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter layout make this a useful companion year round. I LOVE THIS BOOK. And I feel that home gardeners will love it too. The language is very down to earth and you actually hear her speak as you read the text. Very beautiful pictures. I will really miss our FLOTUS.
As a long time gardener, a member of the PA Horticultural Society and having been a judge in the Philadelphia City Gardens contest for close to 20 years there are few things I enjoy more than reading about gardens. I enjoy gardening and I was thrilled to read how this garden was started, how the children were engaged in the garden and the history of gardening at the White House and in areas around the country. I was inspired to garden by my Mother who was inspired by her Dad. My Mom showed me the wonders of my Grandfather's garden when I was a little girl and I am still in awe of what takes place when a seed is planted in the right place under the right conditions. I am thrilled to see other enjoy the garden as I do.

Very impressed with the graphics, the garden plans and the assortment of plants grown. I enjoyed looking back at some previous gardens and the history that goes along with it. It is wonderful Mrs. Obama supports the efforts of growing gardens across America and the steps she has participated in shows she is willing to put her mouth where her heart is.
