So, in my opinion there are (at least) two ways to teach organic chemistry, two types of professors. One is the chemistry way, if you will, which focuses on chemistry words, terms and concepts. Chemistry jargon, and lots of it. Mathmatic-y, formula-y, symbol-y. It's chemistry snobbery - like the professor knows no other way of thinking, or doesn't know how to explain it. The other way is from the mind of a biologist. Conversational, less jargon, more explanation. Don't get it? This professor will break it down. Like biology, you can see it. They make organic visual as it should be, not theoretical, or full of symbols.That's this book. Built more for the biology mind - in my opinion. (Guess which kind I have.) My first attempt at organic was from a chemistry professor and I failed spectacularly. I then took organic with a BIOLOGY professor, and got an A in Organic I, and a B+ in Organic II. This book "thinks" just like that professor. It made me look back at my first professor and think "Is THIS what he was trying to say?!" If I had this book on my first attempt, I feel certain I would have passed.

Extremely helpfully for organic chemistry i suggest buying in the first semester of the course to take advantage of this resource. Its a relatively cheap way to help assist you, it by no means relieves you of the time you will need to spend studying and reviewing notes. But it is a solid reference to help explain certain difficult subjects through a different perspective. Bought this book the summer before I took Organic Chemistry! This book was helpful as it explained some very difficult topics very nicely and made them very simple. It was a solid intro to Organic chemistry and covered a good amount of the topics that I eventually covered in my organic chemistry class.Overall it was well worth the purchase and can really make a difficult class such as organic chemistry less intimidating! I suggest this book to allpre-med students that are worried about their organic chemistry class to try this book!

Great read. This book is recommended for my organic chemistry class this coming up fall at SUNY Potsdam and I wanted to get a head start as I am a bit worried about the subject. So far I feel confident after the first couple chapters of this book which are easy to read and understand. I like the light-hearted humor in the book that makes it a less frightening subject as well. After this, I intend to read organic chemistry as a second language which seems like a more complicated version and in-depth book than organic chemistry for dummies.

If you're anything like me, you need someone to slowly explain O Chem to you. I took O Chem online through Oregon State and some of the handouts the teacher gave were not helpful, so I went straight to this book. It literally dumbed it down for me to the point I could easily understand the material! And I got an A in the course! This is well worth it for anyone taking O Chem!!

So I bought this book the summer before my organic chemistry course. This was my second time taking the course as the first time I ended up dropping because I became completely overwhelmed when stick structures came into the mix. So I ended up reading half this book and doing the homework before my semester. Best decision ever made! It approaches organic chemistry with very simple terms and little tricks to help you figure out the solution. So far in organic chemistry I am happy to say I am not lost at all. This book won’t make you some genius in organic chemistry right away but it will definitely give you a great starting off point that ends up allowing you not to feel so lost when concepts are brought up that you reviewed. I 100% recommend buying it if your taking organic or plan on taking organic .

This book is an excellent way to begin to learn Organic Chemistry. The book covers most of what you will learn in Organic Chemistry I, and ends by covering the first few topics in Organic Chemistry II.It expounds the material in such a way that almost any body can understand it. I personally struggle quite a bit with science, and often find textbooks (and even review books) convoluted and confusing. This book however, really lays some good foundations to begin to learn Organic Chemistry. It explains the basics in a clear, concise manner. The writing style is easy and conversational, so it is possible to read the chapters fairly quickly. I find that reading this book really saves me time in the long run. I read this book first, then I read through my textbook and attend lecture. Since I have already begun to understand the basic concepts, I can focus more on details. This really cuts down the amount of time I have to spend reading and re-reading my textbook. I develop an understanding for the material more quickly and more thoroughly than by just reading the textbook and going to lecture. It also includes lots of little tips on how to solve organic chemistry problems that also save you time in the long run.However, make no mistake, this book is NOT intended to teach you everything you need to know in Organic Chemistry. I believe it is best used as an introduction or supplement to lay the foundations for more detailed material covered in textbooks and in lectures. In other words, this book could be the skeleton, and your textbook and lecture would be the muscles, ligaments, etc. that flesh out the skeleton. That said, I have found this book to be extremely helpful. I wish that they have an Organic Chemistry II for Dummies!

This was one of two resources my husband purchased to help our college son who was struggling in O Chem. He used these resources, talked to him professor, and time with a tutor and increased his grade considerably.

I took the Psychology GRE in October 2013. I received a 96 percentile (780) overall score, 97 percentile (079) in experimental, and 94 percentile (076) in social.To preface this; at the time of taking the GRE's I have a B.A. in Psychology and Philosophy, and an M.A. in the Science and Theories of Psychology. The masters degree helped immensely in gaining the breadth of knowledge necessary for a high score on this test. I'm also not advising that you do this 5 days before the test you plan on taking, it just happened that I had five full days and not much other time.How I used the book;Day 1: ~8-10hrs Read the entire book, highlighting/underlining key topics. Write your own notes in the margins, try and connect the material together. Really take your time. Break down any concepts you down understand and use the internet to clarify them. The book isn't that long and is easily readable in a day. Get a good nights sleep! You are psychology majors, you know that memories are formed in part when we sleep. No sleep= wasted studying.Day 2: Take the practice test included in this book. Don't become discouraged!!!!! I got a 64th percentile on this first test. Again psychology majors, if you become discouraged you will do worse, I could pull up a ton of studies to back me up here. Go through the test and highlight every question you got wrong. For each question read about that topic, until you could never get that question wrong again, in this book or on the internet. Read your correct answers to make sure you will always get a similar question correct. Sleep!!!!Day 3: Read the book again! I know, you already read it once. This book contains the breadth of the psychology field, this test relies a great deal on you knowing the breadth of the field. If you know a lot about psychology your "psychology common sense" can guide you on many questions. However, you DO NEED TO KNOW the specific names of researchers and what theory/study is tied to that person. Sleep!!!Day 4: Take the practice test included with your test registration. Time yourself! Focus, but most of all relax. If you are too stressed you will preform poorly. Mark answers as you go through to go back to at the end. When done again the most important thing is to not be let down, any upward improvement is a great thing! I got an 86 percentile on this second test. The next step, you guessed it, making sure you can get all of your correct answers correct again, and making sure you never get your wrong answers wrong again. SleepDay 5: One day until the test. Relax. Meditate if you are into it (studies say it is helpful). Go through the book skimming over what you know for sure and learning the things you are unfamiliar with still. Go through both tests and go the same. If you know everything on both tests and in this book you are doing very well for yourself. Go to bed early and get plenty of sleep, it is the most important before test day.Test Day: Eat a good breakfast. If you don't need coffee don't drink any!!! The research I subscribe to attributes long term performance decline to caffeine with a short term boost. This test is long term... Tell yourself out loud you are going to do well on the test. Put you hands above your head and shout Wooooo!!!!!!!!!!! All of these things boost confidence. Don't wear red. Wearing red lowers test performance of everyone in the room. Just relax, read every question carefully and mark questions you are unsure of, revisit these questions at the end. Don't ever get discouraged.

I studied this book extremely thoroughly before taking the GRE Psychology Subject Test. I just finished my test today, and found that the book did a fair job of summarizing the material on the exam. However, for students who want a GREAT score, I do not recommend using this book alone to study. It covered maybe 60% of the material I saw on the exam.The book is also somewhat deceiving. The sample exam at the end of the book is tailored to the study material. This made sense, but what was deceiving was that the people from Princeton Review seemed to also look at the official sample practice test that ETS sends in the mail to students who register for the exam. After looking at what was covered in the official practice test, it seems that they included the information in their study guide. I took the official practice test and scored very high. The Princeton Review guide covered approximately 95% of the material in the official practice test sent by the ETS.Ultimately, there was a BIG difference in the amount of material covered in the official practice test versus what I saw today. I feel that this issue needs to be addressed for students who study the Princeton Review book and think that they are good after taking the practice test at the back of the book and the official GRE practice test. Do not rely on this book alone. It is a good start, but nothing can beat looking over class notes.

I purchased this book with about a month's worth of time to study for my Psych GRE. I read through it once without taking notes. Then I went back through it and with each paragraph I read, I wrote a sentence or two in my notes about what that paragraph had said. I used the study tips it provides at the end of every chapter. One of the great things about the field of psychology is that it teaches you little tricks you can use use to more effectively study psychology. The book claims to teach you everything you'll need to know to ace the test and when I got there I found it really had. Consequently I absolutely nailed that exam (99th percentile!). There was only a handful of questions that I encountered on the test that I wasn't sure of, and most of them I could actually tell you where in the book the answers had been I just couldn't remember which name went with which theory. I really liked how it broke down the different areas within psychology by chapter, covered the important big wigs in each field and described in nice, short, succinct language the highlights of each field. In all actuality, I think I learned more from this book about certain parts of the field of psychology (like statistics for instance) than I did from my four years of formal undergraduate education. It gives you a sample test for you to check your progress which is also nice. It even has a chapter in the appendix that gives you great tips about applying to graduate schools and what type of school and degree you should pursue for various career goals. This book was definitely a superb study resource. That being said, no matter how good of a resource it is, it won't help you if you don't put in the time and effort yourself to utilize it to its fullest extent. So give yourself plenty of time beforehand to study the heck out of this thing and that GRE will be the easiest test you've ever taken.

I'm actually a fan of the Atkins diet because I lost 50 pounds with it! This e-book is decent. I recommend buying this book if you're *interested* in the Atkins diet. This book will tell you the basics (plus a little more). If you decide Atkins is for you (to try), you'll want to buy the "New Atkins" book. This is a decent "Quick Start", but that's all it is meant to be.Good luck on your weight loss, diabetes control, or healthier eating habits! What will really make you successful is if you throw out (most) of what the USDA & FDA recommends you eat. Ignore the (bad) advice from doctors about cholesterol and saturated fats. I ate more saturated fats & eggs (cholesterol) than I ever have in my life, and my HDL/LDL/Triglycerides & Glucose numbers *all* improved. (If you believe mainstream nutritionists, there's no way my numbers could have improved.)Disclaimer: I write many reviews, and some (like this) are discounted in exchange for an honest review. I rated fairly irrespective of discount.

This book is a short, quick-start summary of the Atkins diet program. You get a sample one-week menu plan. It gives you the basics of the eating program and some of the reasons why it could work for you. The ad promised 50 low-carb recipes as well, and I didn't get those. The book could have benefited from a good proofreader as well. I got this book at a discount in exchange for my honest review. I've tried the Atkins program and it definitely worked for me in the past. My blood sugar, triglycerides, and cholesterol readings all improved significantly, but I couldn't stick to it longer than two or three months. When I went off the program, I gained all the weight back quickly. You pretty much have to make it a way of life if you want to make this work for you.

This is not a bad book if you are only wanting an overview of the Atkin's Diet, there is not a whole lot more you could expect from 20 pages. If you are wanting to learn about Atkin's Diet for research or before you dive in this is a good resource, however it does not touch on everything. The 7 day meal plan is just that a meal plan there are no recipes that go along with it. An OK book but I would have been highly disappointed had I paid $3 for it.Disclaimer: I was provided a sample of this product in exchange for a fair and honest review. After having my second child, I'm finding out that the baby weight is just not coming off as easily as it used to. So it's no surprise that my New Year's resolution was to really focus on losing the baby weight. I'm was interested in the Atkins diet as I am a super picky eater and it seemed like the plan I'd be able to enjoy the most. This book gave a great overview of how and why the diet works, it's additional health benefits and offers a sample meal plan to get you started. I thought it would be longer or have some fun recipe ideas, but if you are interested in this type of diet, it has great information to help you decide if it will work for you.*I received this book for free or at a discount in return for my honest review. I think this book is a great way to get the basics and serve as a jumping off point.

There's a strong emphasis on following Atkins in a healthy manner: slow transitions rather than abrupt diet changes; why carbs shouldn't be eliminated and how to focus on the right kind carbs; and more.This product was provided at a discounted price in exchange for my honest review.

Overall this book is a great read, its short sweet and to the point. My husband and I have done Atkins in the past we were successful I lost 70lbs and he lost 40lbs which helped us get pregnant and we had our one and only child together. But once I became pregnant I feel off the wagon and induldge in carbs BIG time. Now my daughter is 2.5 yrs old and I am finally ready to go back to Atkins weve tried a couple other diets here and there but this one works best for us. Order this book and it was just as advertised. This product offered a variety or recipes that were simple enough to make and didn't require too many ingredients. The instructions were easy enough to follow that I was able to successfully make my first meal from it with my limited cooking background. The product was delivered to my Kindle instantly. I haven't fully committed to the Atkins diet so I can not attest to the weight loss aspect of it but I am looking at changing my diet some and cutting several things out of my diet and the many options this book gives me will help with that drastically. I would recommend the book and buyer to all users.

I really enjoyed this book. The layout actually makes sense, with the chapters progressing in a way that make it a true starter's guide. Background information is given about the diet and how it works to help you lose weight. The food lists are very helpful. The menu plan my favorite part of this book. The menu sounds really good to me, and is definitely something I can see myself following. Overall, if you want to start Atkins, I recommend reading through this book. It is helpful and much less intimidating than the books you'll find at the library or book store.I received this book for free in exchange for writing this honest review.

Death fascinates and scares me at the same time. I've always wondered about the death business. The only time I had to deal with it was when I was 25 when my dad died. Being the oldest and able to speak English (my mom doesn't), I was in charge of making decision for funeral.I had no idea what to do or pick. But this I remember very clearly. When asked if I wanted my dad embalmed and after being told what embalming was (I didn't know the word and what it entailed), I said no. It just seemed.....unnecessary. My dad's gone. His body is going to rot, why pump chemical into it? It's not as if we are keeping his body in the house for company.After reading Ms Doughty's book, I was so glad that my dad wasn't embalmed, not after knowing what a trocar can do to a body. Even though my dad would not feel the pain but having his gut jabbed and disturbed was a desecration to the vessel that used to house the essence of a living person.

I had trouble coming up with a title for this review that wouldn't turn off anyone because I think this is an important book and I hope many, many people read it.The author of this book has been fascinated with the subject of death and dying since she was a young girl and witnessed the death of another young girl who took a fall at a local mall. For years afterwards she was filled with angst and trepidation and described herself as "functionally morbid."When she went to college she got a degree in medieval history with a focus on death and rituals and afterwards got a job working at a mortuary - the Westwind Cremation & Burial.This book describes her experiences facing death straight on and how it actually eased her own existential angst and made her better able to appreciate and enjoy her own life. We not only read (detailed) descriptions of what happens to bodies in a crematorium, we also learn about other mortuary practices and what really happens behind the scenes.The author makes such an important case against our own culture's tendency to avoid death (and aging!) and to try to avoid its very existence. She points out how in the past and how even today - in other cultures - family and neighbors took care of their dead and witnessed dying all the time. She points out how important that is to accepting our own death and by doing so, make it less frightening and esoteric.Lest I give the impression that this is a depressing book, for me it was not. There are so many laugh-out-loud moments and when I finished the last page I found myself with a little less of my own existential angst.This book reminded me a lot of science writer Mary Roach and I feel like I'd love to hang out and be friends with both of them. Ms. Doughty has such a pleasant writing style and when you're finished reading, you will not only have been entertained but educated as well. She takes on this sobering and angst-filled subject with an abundance of wit and sensitivity. I hope this book gets the attention and audience it deserves.

Plaudits always go to a writer who is able to get a book like this published while in her twenties. It seems that most writers with that youth are either publishing with obscure printers, self-publishing or waiting to finish their memoir. Memoirs written by someone so youthful are suspect simply by the currency of their experiences.However Ms Doughty has acquitted herself quite nicely in this venture, one this reviewer is very interested in-about how do we want to leave this world and what it means to our loved ones. She describes the death care ritual and industry well and alludes to many alternatives. A review digression is appropriate at this point.As an aging blogger who has spent his life as if there were no future, I happened to read Mary Roach’s book Stiffs and was inspired to make all of my end of life plans. They included what I imagined best for the environment and cheapest for my daughters who would have to bear the brunt of their old man’s demise. I won’t have much to leave them financially and so want to minimize costs at getting rid of what I leave. So I elected to donate my body to science and if Doughty is correct, there will be no cost to my kids for getting rid of my remains. That’s good. If my daughters want to have a memorial for me they can do that as long as the background music is Thelonious Monk.I came prepared to read Doughty’s book knowing that my post-mortem life was assured, at least as far as I could plan. In the extraordinary event that I should be selected for the rapture then all bets are off. While I have always tried to be a reasonable man, it is my suspicion that the rapture requires other necessities. What do I know?Back to the book at hand. Doughty’s is more a memoir of her experiences and philosophy, while Roach’s was of various ways a body can decompose. The former is very personalized and provided this reader with much inspiration about her history (short as it has been) to continue to think about how we view death in our culture. It is a discussion I have had with my equally aging peers many times.There is something of a cult of longevity in this country. Futurists write about living for 150 years for example. We have a profound fear of death here as well. The commercial world is proffering their anti-aging solutions and slogans abound such as “50 is the new 70”.It is true that later middle age is viewed differently than it was even when I was in my 20s. Older people are more vigorous as a rule, than they were 40 years ago. As the author points out, this anti-aging game is really for those that can afford it. I would suspect that if asked, Donald Trump would state a preference to live to be 150.But all of the glory of youth and anti-aging is really a fool’s game. What are the costs of living beyond a reasonable lifetime? Resources go into letting some live longer and the population expands. My own 90 year old father has lost most all of his longtime friends to natural deaths. Simultaneously, people in poverty on an international scale get to suffer penury and starvation in order to live much shorter lives.It is my own opinion that we ought to live lives with vim and when that wanes and nursing staff have to take care of us rather than a malnourished child living in poverty a few miles away, it is time to cash in the chips. It seems that we ought to fend for ourselves while we individually are able to but then let go when staff have to care for us. The costs of keeping an aging population (who can afford it) are misspent when there is so much need elsewhere.My own mother only recently died and she shared my thinking. She had an option of having life extending surgery in her early 80s. She investigated the potential good of that exercise and discovered that there was a reasonable chance that the surgery could diminish her mental capacity. She opted out of that arrangement and lived several more years with her physical capacity dwindling but her mind sharp.These are amongst the things that Doughty described in her book. She also made suggestions about the disposal of human remains when the time comes. This also a very emotional topic, one laced with cultural mores. It is her desire to have a green burial. Cremation has its good points but it is at a serious cost to our sketchy environmental resources. She likened the procedure to be akin to driving a car 500 miles. She describes other cultures and historical times who did a better job. The one I liked the best is one that if I had the wherewithal to do would be to go to a desolate place as death loomed, die and then let nature take its course like it does when a deer dies for instance. Flies, beetles, vultures and coyotes will prolong their own lives with the sustenance that my body could provide. I do not find that repulsive at all. Were I able to succinctly end my life that way I would. Doughty prefers to have plant life profit from her remains and there is nothing wrong with that.As she often pointed out, her subject matter makes people uncomfortable as does her job. It was clearly her goal to make people uncomfortable so that they could re-think their views on death and the disposal of loved ones. She discusses the cultural aspects of our beliefs about the process and how they are influenced by religious dogma amongst other things. The repugnance that is often felt when discussing the end of life process has also been heavily influenced by the death industry. Like all other commercial endeavors there must be something to sell. In this case it is to people who currently have a unique vulnerability. We want to honor the dead. We are also filled with emotion. I bought this book to help me fix a shifting problem on the Polaris. Figured the price was a bargain compared to the $500 a dealer wanted to charge just to pull the transmission and diagnose the situation. The written instructions were quite good, but the illustrations were not really helpful to me, a very non-mechanical person. If a reader has some experience pulling apart ATVs, I think this would be quite good.

Good manual , I already had the Clymber manual , but this manual fills in some of the voids of information that were causing me problems . The two books actually compliment each other being able to use both .
