This book is like a complete textbook on Chinese Medicine. It goes over all the fundamental theories in great depth and detail. Beginning with the Yin-Yang theories and going through the Five Phases, 8 principles, and everything else, this book provides all the necessary information. It does read like a textbook, but only because it IS a textbook! I am not enrolled in a school of Oriental medicine, but I bought this book and I LOVE it. It was inexpensive for its size and the amount of information it provides. I am able to read it even though I have not had any formal training in TCM, yet I think experienced students and even practitioners will find this book useful and complete.An essential must for any TCM library!

Great info, but a bit of a dry read. Wiseman is very literal in his translations, which sometimes misses the point of the words.

Contrary to most other reviews, I find this by far the most unhelpful of my Oriental Medicine books (currently studying for Masters in OM). The authors' attempt to sound academically sophisticated results in vague and corny sounding text that makes no success in clearly defining and teaching core concepts. They don't define their terms or really any concepts at all, but go on to expound rhetoric. They are not clear communicators, and sometimes I wonder if they themselves truly understand what they are trying to describe.Over this book, I recommend Ted Kaptchuk's "Web has no Weaver", and Maciocia. However, I've yet to find a Chinese medical text book that's truly impressed me.

Lawrence Stern learned basic stage management at Eldred Hall Theatre (Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH), where he earned an MA in Theatre. While serving in the Air Force, he was the manager of the Armed Forces Radio Television Station on Crete (Iraklion Air Station) and directed the base little theatre at Offutt AFB, NB, and Iraklion Air Station. He stage managed for years in the Los Angeles/Hollywood area (Tustin Playhouse, Actors Studio West, Equity Library Theatre, Players Ring Gallery, Las Palmas, Huntington Hartford, Greek) and Sacramento (Music Circus) before turning to directing, writing and teaching. Jill Gold has been an Equity stage manager for over 30 years. Based in Los Angeles, Jill has toured the U.S. and Canada with shows such as Wicked, City of Angels and Les Miserables, and visited Germany and Austria with Sisterella. OK, the elephant in the room is the price tag here. This book is good, but it's not $100 good. It's also only $100 because book companies love to rip off students who have no real alternatives. If you're not a student, you should look at C# for Programmers by the Deitels - it's the same book, but without the question and review material at the end of each chapter, and for about 30% of the price.If you love color Deitel books, this one isn't. The binding and paper are cheap. I don't care (after all, it covers a version of C# that will likely be outdated in 2-3 years) but it apparently bothered some other reviewers.If this book had been $40, I'd have given it an enthusiastic 4-stars. It starts slow, but progresses well. The examples are good, the explanations are thorough, and I particularly liked that newer features were well integrated with the book, rather than being relegated to an appendix or afterthought chapter. I'd recommend C# for Programmers in place of this (unless you're a student and need those 5 pages of problems at the end of each chapter).

If you are looking to start programming, then I wouldn't suggest this book. The first two or three chapters cram in an entire class' worth of basic programming information and it is clear that this book is not trying to ease you into programming slowly, but rather do a quick review and get you into C#.Unfortunately, after the first three chapters, the content becomes vague and poorly executed. Definitions for concepts are very poorly explained, if at all. Oftentimes you will find a bold faced word (which you would assume is important) that is completely glossed over and not even defined in proper context.Some examples say to reference code they have written that is 4 or even 6 pages prior, so you can't just look at it. You have to flip all the way back and it really disrupts your reading flipping back and forth between where you are and what you need to look at. The code isn't always explained very well and they often make the code unnecessarily complicated when there are much easier and just as efficient ways of doing things.I should note that my experience before C# was mostly in Python and Visual Basic. So I was not a total beginner and I had a strong foundation on core concepts which is probably what helped me pass my class. The book certainly did not.

The content is just OK. I've had much better programming books. It seems to go into way too much detail in the easy stuff (If you've every programmed in C/C++, the first half is review), and not nearly enough detail in the complicated parts (the "Visual" parts).Also, the quality of the actual book stinks. Right now, i have 2 halves of a book. The first half fell right out of the binding, and it looks like I will have more pieces soon. I didn't do anything except read it. I still have 25 year old books from college that I still reference that have held together. I did get the paperback, but that is still no reason for the book to fall apart from light use.

This book was to have included a CD and an unopened access code. The CD was to have been Visual Studio Express 2010, it wasn't. Some oh so clever book seller had managed to insert a 2008 disk and seal it so it appeared to be intact. Whose responsible? no telling, but i can tell you who is suffering right now! I am supposed to be ready to go with this program installed by tomorrow morning and it's not going to be happening. And on top of it, the reseller's email doesn't work! Ok, so that's my review.

The first two chapters of this book are great... the rest is hard to follow. The programming exercises leave too much to the imagination. I found most of what I needed from Google rather than the book.

The book was in good shape, no complaints.

Currently, there is no "good" guide for Ohau, in my opinion. Like maps of the island, most are a couple of years old; and basically only cover the Waikki area (where the majority of tourists tend to go). This one is better than most, covering mostly tourist hotels and tourist attractions. Probably "Oahu Revealed" is a better bet if you want a more complete picture. And, as far as maps go, these are okay; but Nelles maps (also a couple of years old) are probably better. If you intend to stay in Honolulu/Waikki for a week, this book will do. But, to venture out toward North Shore and the other side of the island, you will want other maps and guides.

A good read we defenately will go here next year.After reading this book we hope to spend at least 10 days in Oahu with a week each on other islands. We have been here before only for short times but after reading this book we realize how much more there is to see especially involving the history of Hawaii which interest us greatly. I would recommend this book to any one wanting to visit Oahu, reading the restaurant reviews I started to feel very hungry can hardly wait to we go.Still not much for the handicapped person especially mobility impaired persons using wheelchairs or electric scooters which must include many people nowadays need to know these things as we can't catch buses or walk distances.

Visited Oahu for a week in August and brought along this book. This was my 3rd trip to the island and still found it useful. Like the top 10 section and how they consider different price ranges. Also enjoyed the little section on suggested itineraries for a 1 or 2 week trip & how they broke it down to what to do each day. Used the book mostly for the attractions to see & other resources for hotels and restaurants. I'm sure you can find the same type of information online, but it was nice not to have to spend the time to do the research and have it in book form to make any notes.

sadly doesn't make the flight any shorter. But it was very helpful to get around. Beautiful state - beautiful memories - thank you book for helping us not miss stuff

This guidebook certainly covers a lot of territory - hotels, things to do, family fun, beaches, etc etc.. But it doesnt really offer any sort of unique and/or comprehensive perspective. I read thru it in a couple hours, dont particularly feel any more prepped for my trip as I already have a place to stay and am mostly just looking for activities to fill up the week. Might need some updating (even tho this is a recent edition - they still reference Borders bookstore).I also felt like they gave 1- or 2-stars to just about everything.Also reading Oahu Revealed: The Ultimate Guide to Honolulu, Waikiki & Beyond as I prep for my trip, and I'm finding it much more fun to read, has better/more useful details.

I loved this book! I ordered this one and another one from a different company. And, while, the other one had fantastic pictures, this one had a lot of maps! Great guide book!

I highly recommend this travel guide for anyone wanting a concise, thorough listing of all aspects of visiting Oahu. I read several travel guides prior to purchasing this one for my personal use and to take with me on my trip.

Bought this book twice because I lost it after my first trip to Oahu. This is by far the best selection for things to do, places to eat, where to go, when to go etc. We learned so much I left the book with my friends who I was staying with because they didn't know half of what it contained and they lived on the island!

Info is Good. I have to say I was so surprised at the size of this book for the price. It is a small paperback. I was expecting g somethin a little more substantial for the price.

If you, like me, began to wonder what are all those ingredients in soap, shampoo, rinse, toothpaste, dish soap, floor care, cleaning products, hair care, moisturizers and the myriad of facial products, well you need to get this book because there are a lot of negative ingredients that we do not need to be endangering our body with. Buy pure. Look for items without the ingredients you pinpoint in the book. This book informs you about every chemical product, additives, and so forth. It is an education that will make you healthier and be a wiser purchaser.

As an esthetician, this is very handy to have. I bring it to work and break down ingredients lists on products so that I can sell them knowing howthe product really works. A must have for any professional in the beauty industry.

I first check this book out at the library and after getting past the first chapter I knew it was a must have book! This book has everything you ever wanted to know about the ingredient in that product you're using, don't trust the labeling, knowledge is power!

Tremendously useful: I love this. Very thorough, and doesn't engage in mumbo-jumbo. Can all the claims be proved? I don't know. Maybe no one does. (How many labs have peer-reviewed work on the efficacy of witch hazel extract?) But for the home lotion-maker and for anyone trying to navigate the miles of aisles of skin-care and cosmetic products, this is a helpful compendium. No fluff, no filler. Recommended.
