Such an absolutely delightful tale this was. I fell in love with American Gods long after most of the book world had been telling me for years 'YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK.' And they were right, of course. I should listen more. When I found out Anansi Boys was along a similar vein, I was so excited! Because for me, it's very difficult to find books that are exactly like this, with characters so flawed and complex, who screw up a lot, but are also brave and find themselves through the course of a magical fairy tale. That is exactly my very favorite kind of book, and I never knew it was until I discovered this author. This one is much less dense than American Gods, but not in a bad way. Less characters and intertwining plots, but I found that to be an advantage, as I very much liked who lived among these pages. I think that's really the core of what I like so much; so much life is given to everyone and everything. An entire world is unwrapped for you to explore, some of it dark and violent (he always has that) but also beautiful and always highlighting the resilience of the human spirit. And that is such a nice thing to celebrate.Sometimes I will go a long time without reading something like this, and I'll read several sub-par books in a row, and then I'll remember that there is magic in the book world and I run to it.Sometimes you just don't know how much you need to read Neil Gaiman until you read Neil Gaiman. You probably need to, and this is an excellent choice.

I love almost all of Neil Gaiman's work, and Anansi Boys ranks perhaps second only to American Gods in my personal list of favorite Gaiman books. It is far more humorous than most of his other writing, and the character of Mr. Nancy is a welcome crossover from the American Gods novel. If you have never read Gaiman, this is actually a good one to start with. Comedic, with a bit of suspense and even a twinge of horror thrown in the mix. The main character is a sort of pathetic Everyman named Fat Charlie. And his "cool" brother Spider is the brother many silently curse having in the family. I don't like rehashing the plot in a review, but suffice to say when Spider shows up at Fat Charlie's doorstep, his life takes a turn for the supernatural. Weaving African mythology in with modern city life, Anansi Boys worked its own special brand of magic on me. It made for a wonderful airplane read, and subsequent readings have proven no less entertaining. Don't expect deep and complex. This takes itself far less seriously than American Gods. Anansi Boys is spry and jaunty, reveling in making mischief - much like the patriarch of the Anansi Boys himself. And like most of Gaiman's work, there is something more sinister lurking in the shadows. If you are quick enough, you might catch a glimpse of it out of the corner of your eye.If not, that's okay. It will eventually catch you.

The Anansi Boys is like a modern day trip in and out of Never Land. Just when you believe you know where you're going the story changes shape. Give it a shot .

Akin to American Gods, Anansi Boys is another surreal tale of ordinary people faced with oddly extraordinary circumstances. Neil Gaiman develops the tension in this book in much the same way with American Gods, creating a dream-like environment for his characters in which the normal is just slightly off and the abnormal is surreal, bordering on disturbing. The protagonist and those supporting him are likable enough to root for them and the antagonists sufficiently villainous to despise but the collection of people do not fall into clear cut black-and-white camps, which gives this book the depth you expect from a good story. Overall it is a great read if you like surreal, dark fantasy. I only shorted it one star because American Gods was better and this story could reached that same level.

I bought the Kindle Edition of this intending to read it right away, but non-bookworm stuff came up. Then, the audio edition was an Audible Daily Deal, so I grabbed it. One night fairly recently, the internet was down, so I started the novel (Kindle Edition). I was immediately sucked right into the story. Mr. Gaiman has a talent for mixing the darkly surreal with humor that very few authors have that I love. A few days later, I decided to start on the audio edition, despite minor reservations, because I really like the narration that Mr. Gaiman did on _Coraline_ and _The Ocean at the End of the Lane_. My reservations were so unfounded because Lenny Henry narrated this so wonderfully. I think he really made each character--and each interaction between characters--shine. I know a lot of people are going to probably want to cyber-stone me for saying this, but I think I actually liked this book a bit more than _American Gods_ overall. Both are dark and surreal, but this one just seemed to have connections between the characters and the various threads of the story that felt more earthy and meaningful.

I can only give this book a 3 because it is such a brief history of the era. I think it is certainly factually correct and hits many of the highlights but so much of details have been left out. To get a really good read on the events leading up to and the end of this fascinating time in our country's history, buy Last Call by Daniel Okrent. Available at Amazon.com.

This book was hard to read and although very short, it went on and on about similar issues. I would not recommend this book.

Trying to research the Prohibition era, and this book was a great overall reference.

Good book for middle school or high school students. Easy and fast to read.

American Primitive’ is a collection of fifty poems. It is classic Mary Oliver – it has mostly poems on nature – on animals, plants, trees, the sky, the sea and other beautiful things.In a typical Mary Oliver poem – if there is any such thing – there is a heroine who comes out of the forest, or who is taking a stroll, sometimes with her partner or lover and sometimes with her child and sometimes she spots our poet looking at her and then we realize that our heroine is not human, but she is a deer, or a coyote or a bear or a duck or sometimes even a grasshopper or a damsel-fly and in rare cases even a ray of moonlight (“Yet over the bed of each of us moonlight throws down her long hair”). In some poems we don’t know who the heroine is – we just read about what she does.Some of the poems are epic (epic = more than a page long) – the story starts slowly and then there are sparklers and fireworks and then it fades away gently in the end like the coda of a beautiful, melodious song. One of my favourite poems from the book which was like this was ‘Humpbacks’.In one poem called ‘John Clapman’ there was an interesting character who made me remember the character called Tom Bombadil from ‘The Lord of the Rings’ – “everywhere he went the apple trees sprang up behind him lovely as young girls.”All in all, it is a great read. Highly recommend.

I have never felt the aliveness of the world around me, especially the natural world, in any other writing than perhaps, John Muir's writings. Oliver has grace and beauty to share, and an abundance of love and respect for the world of nature. Her poems really are like prayers, or like making love.

I’m not sure why I actually bought book four as I was not all that impressed with books 1-3...the need to finish what I started I guess. Or masochism. But this book was actually better than the first three and not quite as irritating. Adrien is still annoying and I still don’t really like him but I like Jake much better in this book.This book takes place two years after the end of book three and several things have happened in that span that alter the course of the storyline and allow the author to dig Jake out of the hole he was in more smoothly than I would have thought possible. You can see what’s coming down the pike early on here.There is better character building here and better story arc construction. The mystery is more intriguing and more in line with Lanyon’s more recent work which I had read first and very much enjoyed.Pet peeve? The British slang...Adrien is a California boy. He wouldn’t say “in hospital” or “flat” or several other words or phrases. It’s bothered me the whole series. There are also some research flaws, especially given that the book avoids giving a time setting. Copyright date isn’t clear as the books have obviously been re-released...no one was using a Palm Pilot any longer in 2017, or 2011 for that matter. HIPPA laws have been around since before then as well. This lack of editing is irritating and takes my head out of the story which is a cardinal sin for me.

This one starts with the backer who may make one of Adrien's novels into a movie dropping dead in front of him and it's uphill from there all the way. Naturally the police arriving to investigate are Jake and his new partner and the partner, Alonzo, takes an instant dislike to Adrien. Recently recovering from hospitalization from pneumonia may not seem good, but it's Adrien's alibi for why he didn't give the victim CPR when Alonza hints there was a different reason. Jake takes it from there, after a two-year absence wanting back into Adrien's life--he and wife Kate lost their baby, she doesn't want to try again, things are tense in the happy nest--but there are other complications in store. Paul Kane, matinee idol par excellence, is quick to let Adrien know that he and Jake were involved during the time he was dating both Kate and Adrien and that Jake discussed their relationship often with Kane. If that doesn't put a damper on any reconciliation, nothing will and Adrien's both angry and betrayed but still stuck with seeing Jake as the investigation continues. In an effort to distract himself, Adrien seeks out old boyfriends and one of the young villains from The Hell You Say also makes a minor reappearance. In the meantime, one of the stepsisters Adrien acquired with his mother's remarriage hires herself as his assistant at the bookstore while another wriggles her way into his heart, becoming the kid sister he never had.Expect more murder and Adrien in jeopardy, more than ever before.Jake has certainly not been written with a sympathetic hand and most readers are definitely not going to be kindly disposed toward him, though he's obviously one of the two main characters in this series. The man wants his cake and to eat it too..a wife and child and Adrien. If there's one thing readers know from reading Lanyon's novels, it's that the characters are not static, they do change and Jake's is about to...drastically. The life he's hoped for is falling apart but while Adrien occasionally weakens, so far, he's disenchanted enough, thanks to Kane, to keep Jake at arm's-length. There's a great deal of soul-searching going on in this one, however, and the ending, while it may be what readers have been hoping for, definitely leaves the way open for more problems.This novel was purchased by the reviewer and no remuneration was involved in the writing of this review.

It's a sign of the good writing that I came to this series for the romance and stayed for the mysteries. Or maybe I'm staying for Adrien. He's such a well-drawn character, and wrote, so consistently presented. The man is brilliant, fiercely loyal, and engages so honestly with the people he cares about (and the vast majority of people he doesn't). I have not loved Jake. I have not wanted Jake for Adrien. Jake has not been worthy of him. If the books hadn't been as good as they are, I'd have just gone back to waiting for the next Art of Murder book, but this book was the best yet, and it deserves all the accolades. The ending...well, it did something to my heart, too. Kudos.

I received this book for free in exchange for my honest opinionI have a big collection of adult coloring books, and I must say this will be added to my list of favorites! What makes it one of my favorites is the variety it contains. There are pages of whimsical trees, underwater fish scenes, mermaids, fairys, animals such as owls, fox, insects such as butterflies, beautiful floral pages. I would recommend this book to beginners who are just starting out as well as seasoned colorists.

46 single sided designs, hand-drawn and detailed. It has an animal-garden flavor to it with trees, leaves, bugs and flowers, animals and more. The paper is average weight and will likely bleed through but because it's single-sided you can put a piece of cardstock between the pages and protect the image on the page underneath if you decide to use markers. Great item for the price.

From mermaids, to fairies, a bicycle in a beautiful garden to wise looking birds and insects, this book is an eclectic journey through every thing that is fun and magical. There are pictures to suit every mood and every level of coloring expertise. The lines are clear, concise, and crisp. Every detail exquisite. I'm also pleased with a very generous amount of pages.

Love this coloring book! Really does have the cutest whimsical pictures to color....have been looking for books like this, they are very rare....hope there will be more like this! I love coloring trees, tree houses, tree stump houses, garden paths, woodsy paths, whimsical underground worlds, etc.

I have enjoyed coloring as an adult long before Adult Coloring Books were the cool thing to do. I have soooo many books and this one was a nice addition to my collection. I use markers for all my books, with a plain page to separate in case my markers bleed. I would buy this again.

this was not bad, just a lot of leaves on each page, got really tired of so much green.. pages do not tear out as not perforated.. just okay..

How many times does one need to know that Ozzie has a photon pistol that shoots photon blasts and photon rifles that... HEY It Shoots ..... wait for it.... Photon blasts.... How dumb does this author believe the reader is.... I know Ozzie carries a photon gun and that is shoots photon blasts. I know that he wants to get an eagle and >>>>> I deleted the book after attempting, several times, to complete the book. I could only stomach so much.

Sometimes it's hard to know who to trust... This seems to be a maxim for this writer. But, things are shaping up nicely and I will definitely buy the next book, when it comes out...

What can I say the series just keeps getting better and better. Hurry up book 4, can't wait to find out what happens to Ozzy and company next.

The main character seems to be a relic seeker for income and because his family is being somewhat held as ransom in order for the crime boss to get Ozzy to do what he wants. All through the series he talks of taking his daughter (but not her mother!) off planet to get away from everyone and not necessarily because of a pending invasion of Mars. In this story, Ozzy is trying to find another ancient relic so he will have enough money to buy an Eagle space ship to make his escape possible. He is certainly not the most likeable man in my reading history and seems to deserve all the bad luck he attracts. His reluctant sidekick, Jozi is not portrayed very well at all, seeming more brain damaged (her single-minded focus on family, no matter what) than a kick-ass agent of the Martian police. So then there are a collection of other lackadaisical characters, a seemingly unstoppable bounty hunter, a Galactic Knight and assorted bad guys. I received an advanced reader copy free and have voluntarily chosen to leave an honest review.

I received a gratis copy of this novel in advance, on the understanding that I would write an honest review. I have read all three novels in this series so far, and believe that this one is the best. Brandon has created a series of characters that are all believable, and are mostly good guys. Ozzie ends up with his nemesis dead, but he has been blackmailed into a commitment to travel to Earth to recover a powerful artefact and eliminate an alien species that has occupied the planet Earth. The humans remaining have colonized Mars, and Ozzie is one of them. Will he succeed? We'll have to wait to find out--a sort of a cliffhanger--but we still emerge with a love of this leading character, so totally motivated to get back together with his beloved daughter. Well worth the read---Read this, and you will love it- and you will be motivated to continue with the subsequent volumes.

I read this book in two days. Perfect for an insomniac! Nothing like reading a good back when I can’t sleep. I admit, due to the action and suspense I was unable to put the book down. I did find the book not as good as his last book. The character development is not as good as the previous book. This book focuses on action. I found Quad to be very interesting and hope his character and history are developed more in his next book. I’m also looking forward to more about the Galactic Knights (even thoughts I’m not a fan of their name) and the blood of the ancients. I’m assuming This book is obviously a setup for the next book. Their is a lot of this to tell. Seems like it may take more than one book to wrap this story up. I strongly recommend this book. It is not a stand alone book and you have to read the first two books in order to follow the story.

Once again our hero, Ozzy, iis trying to save his family but is thrown into situation after situation where he is simply avoiding the Martian Police and others, including the best assassin in his universe. Backing his actions are Garcia and the Galactic Knights. The book quickly pulls the reader into one action filled scene after another. It is a, fun, wild and riveting ride. I look forward to book 4 in the series.I am voluntarily reviewing a digital ARC copy of this e-book at no cost, obligation, or remuneration. I opted to review this title and it is well worth the read!
